What I'm watching (Series 2)

Uncomfortable viewing but the performances of the main characters are excellent. I read that Gadd turned down a lot of offers following Baby Reindeer to get this made.

I saw that @browellm posting his top 10 science fiction movies the other day and I found the lack of this and

disturbing.

Both flawed but both faves.

Need more of this where was the list?

First watched at uni the day of some fairly serious family stuff, which did not put me in the best of mindsets…

Back when it was released I made the (as I now realise) somewhat bizarre decision to go and see Event Horizon at the cinema on a substantial dose of mushrooms! It was visceral to say the least! Unbelievably beautiful though, despite being obviously scared out of my wits, and then dreaming the entire night afterwards that I was in the film.

Over the subsequent years, I’ve reflected that I’m probably quite lucky to have come out of that sane. Or relatively sane.

“Legends”

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt33265765/?ref_=fn_t_1

    1. Customs agents go undercover to infiltrate Britain’s most dangerous drug gangs, following a thrilling criminal investigation based on extensive research and interviews with those involved in the top-secret operation.
    2. Set in the early 1990s, when Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise was losing its battle with illegal drug smuggling (across Britain’s borders), a group of British Customs employees are sent undercover to infiltrate some of the U.K.'s most dangerous criminal (drug) gangs. However, these were not trained spies; they were normal men and women, plucked from their ordinary lives, and placed into this top-secret operation. After going through a basic training regime, they were tasked with building new identities in the criminal underworld. These identities were called Legends.

Great ensemble cast Steve Coogan on good form. All eps available on Netflix, binged ‘t first five over last two nights lookin’ forward to finale tonight.

Quite enjoying this. Matthew Rhys as the mayor of a remote & cursed island, trying to get more tourists to visit. Comedy & horror.

What a pile of shite, be surprised if I make it past 30mins

If you don’t like yourself very much and find planks of wood injected with testosterone entertaining. This is golden.

Has it’s ups and downs but I love the scene where they form a testudo.

The Christophers

The son & daughter of an irascible old artist engage a forger to complete a series of his part finished paintings and secure themselves some inheritance of value.

A beautiful & funny film with fine acting performances from Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel & James Corden and Jessica Gunning as the hapless, greedy offspring.

The word gratuitous is excellent, and applies to almost all of this series. Berserk fits too. Come to think of it, asinine works pretty well too. One of the lead characters’ British accents (Butcher) is worse than Dick Van Dyke’s.

All of this sounds terrible. Wrong. The way the series lampoons contemporary America makes it feel rather like an Iraqi Lego video with a vastly larger production budget. Every shock tactic and comic-strip device is knowingly used, and that was precisely the potency of it.

The ending was always going to leave people wanting, but good things probably should. 8.5/10

*Seemingly there will be a spin off in the form of Vought Rising at some point down the line

Our 3 lads love it, and keep telling us we should watch it, aught to give it a go at some point

I have found the latest series a little too much.
The shock factor has waned. The plot is just an excuse to keep the whole shebang going.

It has its moments, and I watch it and enjoy it, but it will never surpass the audacity and shock value the early episodes managed.
