Or just too much Black Malt or Special B. Both in large quantities give off burnt flavours. Often referred to by brewers as a “smokey” character
I dunno, but it tasted burnt. There is a fine edge between smokey and toasty, and burnt - cremated…

Yeah some do. I’ve done it myself before and gave a lot away, then binned the rest. Not my thing.
