This. But unfortunately as @coco pointed out, the films were, well, not the best.
Dalton: I want this character to be darker
Director: OK Tim, if you could just toboggan down this mountain in a cello case.
Bond. Isnāt. Supposed. To. Be. Dark.
Yes the books may have been but frankly they were a little boring and once You only live twice had a volcano base in japan and Goldfinger had ninja throwing bowlers and bollock seeking lasers it was all over for 'dark and gritty and IMO all the better for it.
Iām rare in that I enjoy Bond for itās campy, gadget laden, set piece buffooneryās and think Craig absolutely ruined it with his serious running about face and shaky cam fights - Bourne did that and was better at it.
As for my favourite bond - anything from the Connery, lazenby and Moore years really. Dalton I canāt remember, Brosnan was meh and craig as I have established is a bit crap. If I had to choose one? No I canāt Probably a top 3 of Goldfinger, From Russia and OHMSS, with an honorable mention to view to a kill for Walkens unhinged bad guy.
On the subject of baddies, bond is only as good as his baddies and the more modern you go the shitter they become. Iād love to see Andy Serkis go the full nick cage as a bond baddie - he was fucking brilliant as Ulysses Klau in Black Panther and would make a fantastic bond baddie.
anyway TL;DR - anything after Moore is shit, needs better baddies,
Live and let die
I think Brosnan was an underrated Bond. The films he was in were pretty crap ones, but that was down to crap scripts etc rather than him as Bond.
you are of course entitled to your (wrong) opinion but Brosnan was a substantial step up in the instances of serious running about face and really the start of the abysmal bond baddies when they cast Begbie as the main bad guy - yes hes alright for glassing someone down the boozer but as a credible threat to global peace⦠nah. While Brosnan might have had potential, the reality is that the scripts and adversaries he faced were poor - come on sean bean? you knew heād die at some pointā¦
Is that what should happen to the thread?
Before the thread dies, hereās the final answer.
Best Bond so far is Daniel Craig.
Why? Because our 12yo daughter says so.
Weāre just a bunch of dinosaurs, sheās the future.
Her reference for movies: all complete Die Hard, Mission Impossible, Jason Bourne, Matrix, RED, Fast and the Furious, Kingsmen, John Wick, Agent 47, Transporter, Bad Boys, MIB, Oceans, Tomb Raider, Leon, Lucy, Anna, Shooter, 2 Guns, Jack Reacher, Parker, Safe House, Star Wars, Harry Potter, James Bond of course and some more.
She hates fake, i.e. fighting scenes that look like bad executed kindergarten play performances, which basically include many if not all classic Bond movies. Maybe also because she did Krav Maga and kickboxing herself before Covid-19. The moment she goes āboringā, itās not good.
Any time is whisky time, but sheās too young for that
She likes good conversations in movies/series though.
She went through the first 8 series of Suits in no time, is āsavingā now the last episodes of the series 9 box, because she doesnāt really want to have the series finished.
And she liked Parlament as well with that MEP assistent in Brussels.
I tend to agree. I think he was the first Bond too shoot someone in cold blood when he dispatched the assassin in the hotel room.
Casino Royale with David Niven, Peter Sellers and Ursula Andress, no Bond film has matched itās tongue in cheek take on Jimmy and his plots, even though it was a bit poo but funny.
That film is amazing and I love it, not sure it counts as cannon for JB mind.
I caught the last 10 minutes or so of Diamonds are Forever recently. That film is just utter rubbish. Connery was way too old by then & the ending including chucking the villains overboard with their exploding cake was nonsense. it was so abrupt it was as if theyād run out of money.
Found these in a box when I moved.
Must have come from a job lot at sometime.
Top two are mono. I forget how long Bond has been going
Remember going to see live and let die in Ramsgate whilst on holiday.
Still the best bond film imo.
Despite Roger Moore
For me a three way tie between From Russia with Loveā¦Goldfingerā¦Casino Royal (Daniel Craig)
Def Goldfinger.
The books are so much grittier and of their time. A whole chapter devoted to the Goldfinger golf match!
Driving down to Bisley shooting range in the Bentley to set up the from Russia With Love rifle - didnāt even make the film!
