Not trying to typecast, but why do all Americans like old mac?

Probably is typecast, but I don’t like peat.
Thankfully I don’t know too many yanks; actually, none, here.

Probably because the company is investing 650 million dollars in expanding its business and has a good marketing team. It surprised me to learn they are the third biggest scotch exporter and they have focused on the premium market . Sales are up despite Trump’s 25% tariff, bucking the trend. Just started seeing their whiskey in Tesco and other supermarkets, not seem that in Cumbria before. I think the brand is perceived as a cut above the two majors, Glenfiddich and Levitt.

They even got a nice product placement on Suits, wouldn’t have done then any harm.

I didn’t drink Scotch, while I was in the US.
The only spirit I drank was Jack Daniels, black label, and if they didn’t have it, Jim Beam, white label.
I had heard of Johnny Walker Red and Black, and Chivas Regal, and that is about it.
The first introduction to Scotch, was a business trip, up north, to Scotland.
We went to a whiskey tasting in Aviemore. 4 for ÂŁ10, I think. We were the last ones there, so he gave us a couple more, and finished with some 35 year old Scotch, ÂŁ300 a bottle.
A trip to Dublin, was the introduction to Irish whiskey, which I prefer.
My preferences were my choices.

As I used to

It is my preference too

Scotland? - ahem?

I was only teasing. But every time I have been at my friends whisky and cigar club in LA, I only ever hear ‘Mac’ being ordered of varying ages.

With you on the Irish, Teeling small batch, rum cask is amazing. Great value for money compared to Scottish

Best place to order online with next day delivery (for a present, to be sent direct to them)?

Master of malt are dependable, fairly sure you can send it as a gift. Them or the whiskey exchange.

Thanks!

I’m realising it’s been a long time since I’ve bought whisky
Limited editions with gimmicky names seem to have proliferated and become the majority. I remember when I bought Ardbeg Supernova this was very much the minority.

I’m actually quite lost! I googled one that sounded quite interesting and it turned out to be intended for airports and sold at a massive markup elsewhere
i.e. questionable whether it was worth the price I saw it sold for

I know he likes Highland Park, and also Islay ones
I

Could go up to 100’ish. Recommendations would be appreciated!

That’s a decent amount of money, this lagavulin finished in Pedro ximenez is amazing

This is a peated version of a non peated whisky https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskies/bunnahabhain/bunnahabhain-cruach-mhona-whisky/

Not had this but it’s supposed to be special

40th, and I’m not spending £3k on a 1980 bottle :stuck_out_tongue:

This sounds interesting

This, is a special bottle. It’s lovely!

Caol Ila 18 is another favourite, or the Bunnahabhain 18 although that’s above £100 these days.

I went with the Lagavulin. Out of stock at MoM but Whisky Exchange had 2001 and 2002 editions. Went for the 2001.

Nice customer service from WE. Engraving was an option so decided to have it engraved with something wildly inappropriate that he’ll have to hide from his kids. It would normally add 2-3 days to delivery and wouldn’t allow you to select next day delivery, but they called the warehouse to ask them to do it today and I just had to call up with my order ref to change it to next day delivery.

Now I want to order a bottle for myself
