The more you read about that sinking by the sub the worse it gets, the ship was there on a training exercise, the sailors had been on a parade and as such due to the nature of what they was doing they had no ammunition on the vessel. The USA was also part of the exercise but pulled out at the last minute. They then fired on and sank an unarmed ship and then left sailors in the water. Miles outside of combat operations, against all sorts of maritime conduct.

Probably just money.
The US arms industry is well ensconced into the American establishment and war is spectacularly profitable for them.
One rarely needs to look further than “will a well connected American make lots of profit?” in these decisions.
Same goes for supporting Israel’s mass destruction.
