Are the straits open/ closed, depends which side you lean towards. From day 1 this war has read like Billy Liar. Iran certainly seems to have the upper hand, Trump and Co. appear to have monumentally messed up.

Yeah, given how much Ukraine has stretched them thin, that seems like a very unwise strategy. I’ve seen reporting to the effect that Putin’s Generals are lying to him hugely about what’s actually going on though, which might explain why he thinks this is a viable option.
Which of them is likely to tell him that it’s a stupid idea ?
