WTD: I've got the horn

I need some horns.

I’ve got it bad and that ain’t good.

I’m contemplating building onken cabinets for my altec 416 drivers. At the moment I have a pair of altec 806 and emilar ea175c compression drivers and could possibly take my fostex t825 out my other speakers to cover the top end. I could then possible go two inch driver instead of 1 inch and buy something more modern for the mids

So possibly something that cuts off around 500hz maybe slighter higher. one inch or two inch mount, but also at this point anything else is considered as I could use them for something else

I have some Manta Ray style horns 2"throat fibreglass, which came out of the National Film Theatre in Bradford.
They’ll play down to 5-600 Hz. @Adpully acquired some as well at the same time. I’m probably never going to get around to using them. I’ll have a look tomorrow to see if I have any pics. A bit like this with mouth 80x68 cm

I’ll see if I can get one out of the garage & take pics tomorrow.

Out of interest, what sort of thing did you have in mind?

am i right in thinking these are for 1.5 inch drivers

it looks like the threaded section just unbolts to leave a bolt on connection

Yep, but you can buy/make adaptors for them

I’ve got a pair of Autotech 200Hz cutoff 2" throat tractrix horns, the lovely JBL2482 drivers for them (350Hz - 1200Hz or higher in a 4way with Raal tweeters that easily reach down to 3500Hz).

I’ve got 1.5" throat upper mid horns -
Pair of tractrix 550Hz in birch ply I turned, a pair of Le Cleach 550Hz in soft pine and a pair of 400Hz Tractrix in GRP I cast from a mould.

All the horns are bitumen damped @Ruprecht would be proud..

Oh, and the pair of Raal Lazy ribbons.

As this lot, minus the bass horns and tapped horns (of course)..
Shown here with the 400Hz Tractrix.

With the Le Cleach

Can look like

Various DIY supports for the horns and simple stands for the Raals..

I’ll get around to putting them up for sale someday..

Indeed - wholesome commitment.

Thanks, easier than me trying to extract them from the garage while on crutches!

i think both the manta ray and the tractrix style are going to be too big for the space

this is the space I’m working with and can’t really come past the depth of the cabinets approximately 2ft

I did have a mould for 300 or 350Hz Tractrix horns that weren’t that large.
Did not see I’d ever use it - so chucked it.

Tractrik might work for the top end if I went multiway but that’s probably for another time. I’m thinking two way with possibly a bullet style tweeter for the top end of I go to a1.4/5 or two inch compression driver over a 1 inch
