depends on how you classify serious. Windows is an end user experience, it does some things very well and others not so well. IME it way more stable now, than it ever was.
Well, yes, it’s designed primarily as a desktop OS. But they made some poor architectural choices especially wrt driver integration which led to stability issues.
Of course UNIX/Linux was historically poor on the desktop. But at least the user interface is decoupled rather so you could choose your (shitty in those days ) window manager. Which is the right way round - have a solid platform that the UI sits on, rather than retrofitting a proper OS under a user experience.
