2020 Formula One

And now they have stopped the contract with their title sponsor (and related companies):

Properly gutted. No, it’s not really a surprise. Alan Jones and Williams were the reasons I became interested in/obsessed with F1.

To lose a Grandee team is criminal in a sport that spunks money like an amateur male porn star.
There will be a few (personal) tears shed within the sport, but it will all too soon be forgotten once the next deal need doing.

Wonder if anyone will show-up? I might potter down in the Hilux in case they need some fill-in action :+1:

I love the fact that we are the only country to have ‘Great’ in front of it🤣.

On the surface it looks obvious that 2 once great teams are on their uppers.
Dig deeper and it looks like a natural reshuffling of the hierarchy.
No bad thing in itself, but for those who’s F1 childhood was formed by Tyrrell, Lotus, Brabham, Toleman, Arrows, Ligier, Coloni, Dallara, March, Jordan, Zakspeed, It is unbelievable sad that soon Williams and McLaren, will join those long departed teams as part of F1 history.

As an F1 obsessive, I am incredibly torn by the loss of 2 grandee teams. If you can’t cut the mustard, then you have no place in the pinnacle of motorsport. On the other hand, they have been a consistent part of F1 for most of my life and I will miss them and their achievements.

I find this pretty gutting, too, and feel it can only harm Maclaren’s car-making business as well, which seems foolish. There does seem to have been a lack of commitment to the sport from them for a while though. No doubt a more complex and nuanced story in reality. :frowning:

An F1 connection…

Probably, one of the nicest guys in the paddock that I was lucky enough to meet. And one of the most positive people ever.

EVER.

Jesus. Poor bastard. Hope he pulls through…

I don’t often find myself asking, “Hasn’t he been through enough ?”
But in Alessandro’s case, it’s a reasonable question.

Mercedes DAS system.

So Formula One is a development class, always looking to innovate and improve.
So Mercedes come up with a new idea, try it out, it seems to work so the first thing the rest of the teams do is make sure it is banned for next year.

Meanwhile Hamilton sets fastest laps in practice at the first GP of the year so the first thing the opposition do is protest about the thing they have already got banned for next year.

Must be pure joy to be a design engineer in F1 knowing that all your very best work will be banned and never seen.

It’s been like that for years.

Fuckin’ casuals.

I love F1, I really do, but there is so FUCKING much wrong with it that I could cry - I can no longer see it having a future if they don’t make dramatic changes, and fast :sob:
