A very patriotically English report on the F1 championship contenders:
You’d have got interesting odds on this at the start of the season
If I’d had to guess it, I’d have said Fred. Enjoyed both his and Seb’s work this season - which has made the lousy TV coverage (mostly ignored lower-order racing in favour of replays of the clown-show at the front) all the more annoying…
Did Bottas manage to make ANY overtakes this season?
Only if you count them in reverse.
There were definitely some cars in front of him that pitted.
An interesting review of (some of) the applicable rules. I feel there is more to this and that perhaps this discussion could be considered incomplete.
There’s also a clause in those rules that says the race director can do what he wants, basically. It was a massive fuck up all round. Max has won a championship that a lot will see as forever tainted, Lewis should have done something unprecedented and become an 8x champion.
If Hamilton had won, that too would have been seen as tainted thanks to the generous interpretation of the rules in lap one. I can’t help feeling that if he’d given-back that place at that point he’d have gone on to win anyway, incidents notwithstanding.
All entirely irrelevant now.
Lewis can Deal, what really saddens me is the harm F1 has done to itself - in the non-enthusiast public eye it is squarely back at the “glorified Scalectrix rife with corruption and Fixing” image that sticks to it like shit to catfur… Precisely the opposite effect to the one they tried to engineer…
Most certainly. It was one of those races where they could only win with luck intervening. I thought they’d have 2 stopped after Lewis began stretching his legs in the 1st stint (cos “fuck it, why not?”) but i assume their people ruled it out as slower. It needed luck. And they got it
Interesting.
Shitshow
So Merc have withdrawn their protest and now we all wait for Michael Masi to be burned at the stake on the Place de la Concorde
“constructive dialogue with the FIA and Formula 1”
being very heavily leaned on one would imagine
“Seeking new challenges elsewhere”…
Mind, even that would require someone, somewhere in the egocracy, to admit they got something wrong…
For me Masi needed somebody along side him like Charlie did with Herbie Blash.
Motor racing occasionally repays a gamble and what happened is more shocking to new followers than old school IME.
I obviously don’t know him but I would be surprised if Hamilton doesn’t come back next year.
The carrot of beating Michael’s DWC record must be a large one.
