I very much enjoyed walking around the LBJ Presedential Library in Austin when I was there. Something of a Thunderbirds feel about it, and also a facinating museum inside.
The dutch museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam has built a depot for their collection not in exhibition⌠The idea is that you can visit the depot by yourself to see the full collection of 151.000 pieces or have a guide show you around⌠Wonder how the security measures look likeâŚ
We tried to go there when we were in R-to-the-Dam but it was a bit of a building site at the time
Rotterdam is fantastic architecturally, sadly because it got the crap bombed out of it, and the crafty Dutchies are better at getting their shit together than us
On the actual site of the original library are two office buildings, good buildings but nothing unique to the city. The new Mecanoo designed library is better in the flesh, IMO.
These are all ports so not sure where the fantacy bit comes from? Perhaps its ship watching?
If its fantacy you want then try Cesky Krumlov in the Czech republic
Medieval buildings built on a bend in the river valtava with one of europes largest intact castles with a unique hall decorated with figures from italian comedy theater.
Living in Dutch cities is like an acquired taste.
Rotterdam however has amazing architecture. They also nickname constructions. The bridge a few posts ago is called âthe swanâ. The verdict for the depot is not out yet, but âsoup bowlâ is a contender.
A place I like is the market hall, a huge food court, not far awy from another (old) landmark, the cube apartments:
Well I was younger and I was more or less by myself. Had some good times there and a fantastic job the with Matthew Hall as a Project Engineer (Freelance) for Hooker Chemical plants. Bars (one for Nazis) and Pub (Red Lion). Good restaurants and cafe life.
