Bond - Who's next?

I was pleased to see an exception to this rule in the itv post office drama, more reflective of the sorry state of our legal system and politics than genuine change, but still long overdue.

Re bond, it stopped being interesting in the 80s for me when I realised there was a lot better things to watch

I did like jaws though, so plus one on the evil villains henchmen being the best bit

Moore in live and let die was my personal favourite.
Was he the best bond actor,no.
Did he ham it right up,yes.

But there is something so good about that film.

The Bond brand is about action and spectacle as it is story. ā€˜Blockbusters’ tend to go down this route. Ā£250M for your eyes and little for the brain. Sometimes it’s nice to feast your eyes.

This is right for #1, but for #2 it has to be

Actually, I think there something about Bond actors that they go on to do their best work after Bond:

Moore as an aging queen in Boat Trip (car crash of a film, but he’s wonderful). Dalton in Penny Dreadful. Brosnan in The Thomas Crown Affair. Craig in Knoves Out etc.

I don’t think I’ve seen Moore in anything other than the saint, the persuaders or bond. Must check some of his films out.

Karl Stromberg would like a word

Bloke lived in a sub aquatic AVID turntable and nicked submarines for a laugh. Absolute top tier overcomplex Bond villainy. Walken was decent but he deserved better than going up against a 58 year old Roger Moore.

It’s probably not a universally shared opinion but I think these absolutely over the top seventies efforts offer a better template for what you could do with Bond now than taking it back to the Cold War. Gritty realism is done better elsewhere by creations with less baggage. I want my Bond in whatever the 2024 equivalent of a safari suit is having an absolute riot. With that in mind, the person I want to play him has already done this very effectively before…

Just realised I haven’t seen SPECTRE yet so that’s the wife’s-away-for-a-couple-of-days-this-week viewing sorted.

The last two irk me somewhat, in that you have one of the best evil actors on the planet as the villain, but they really don’t allow him to shine.

Seems like for once the rumours were right.
Last year it was claimed the current fave had already recorded a promo shoot similar to the opening gun barrel sequence.
Suddenly, he’s news again.

Either a massive red herring…
Or Aaron Taylor Johnson has it?

The EDA awards had him nominated for Best Depiction of Nudity, Sexuality, or Seduction. He also married a 42 yr old when he was 18. I’m not sure what this says about his acting skills but he’s got randy in the bag.

Oh christ I’m turning into Kev, never heard of him and googling pictures didn’t really clear things up.

Nope. Me neither :man_shrugging:t3:

He was the army chap in Tenet.

Although I hardly recognised him then. Bullet Train was the latest big one.

Another misogynist

In more recent years there are a large number of fully empowered, ass kicking, death defying female lead blockbusters. Bond doesn’t need to champion the cause, it’s already happening.

I do agree Bonds character is somewhat 2D and there’s room for improvement there and with supporting females who serve the story more than mere titillation. As the writer notes, Judy Dench brought a very different slant to ā€˜M’ which I enjoyed greatly.

I’m with you.
I was being sarcastic. Other people seem to find this offensive.
