Car Detailing Faff

Sam has to hail a taxi to the kerb - not through incompetence, just distaste for kerbed alloys. I put a small ding in an alloy on the V40 one sleep-deprived night dropping a mate off in Maidenhead in the small hours - I swear she smelled the dint, the bollocking was excruciating… :persevere:

Tempting fate now…

I last kerbed a wheel 11 yrs ago, a brand new 3 series, fucked it good and proper. Luckily it was a diesel so didn’t matter.

My last time was probably 11 days ago. I am fucking shocking.

I admit to being the same. I hate kerbed alloys.
Sadly, Westminster council are in possession of a bill for repairs to a near side front gunmetal 17"er. A loose kerb stone which was standing proud has blemished my reputation. I haz the embarrass.

I remember how upset you were when you dinged yours on the the cliff-like kerbs at @Jim’s old place.

Cheddar gorge, that place.

I saw cars crying.

My car was about a month old then.

Those kerbs demanded respect especially with the camber in the road. Dipping mirrors and next level concentration required to avoid catastrophe.

Granite kerbstones are the work of Satan. Straight sides, lethal edges, nice and irregular… 'Tis what leapt-out and bit the Ovlov… :sob:

Well, once you’ve done it a couple of times, best to carry on until you have a nice even scrape around the entire rim :joy:

I haven’t forgotten them. Just need to get up north in a car big enough to put them in. Thanks for holding on to them. You are a lovely person.

Car cleaning, are Karcher still the go-to for Pressure Washers?

I’m after one to do the cars, with a bottle attachment…

I bought one of [these] Nilfisk (https://www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/house-garden/powertools/best-pressure-washers-car-decking-block-paving-under-100-deals-patio-a9492816.html)
They sometimes have reconditioned units on their website.

This is all they have at the moment, in the outlet shop.

I’ve got a Stihl one that was left here by the former owners - it’s a lot better than the Karcher Sam had. May be used examples out there.

My karcher buggered up after 18mths, just stopped working. Their 2 yr warranty is good however. Collected it from my house and sent me a new one a few days later. That one is still going strong after 3 yrs.
Mines a k3. Good enough for doing cars and patios

The Karcher with the 3yr warranty looks like a good bet then!

Went with the Karcher K4 Compact, along with some AutoGlym Polar Blast as it was on offer, to start me off! The cars certainly need it, neither have had a clean since before we moved house in the Summer!

My Karcher stopped working outside of the warranty. A bit of poking about and I discovered a big capacitor near the on/orr switch was oozing waxy stuff. £18 for a new capacitor and it has been running fine for about 5 years. It took longer to find the very long Torx drivers to undo the bolts keeping the case together than to fix.

I rather suspect Karcher are “the go to” cos that is what is available and heavily pushed on the shopping channels.

Put the new Karcher to good use, with the AG Polar Blast, reasonable results but the really hard water round here does not help! The AG Autoglym Magma seemed to really help the exhaust tips, nice and shiny now, I did not do the wheels properly as the paint is coming off and I have a set of new alloys (194M) to put on at the next tyre replacement.
My BMW is still being used every day so was pretty filthy, the Mazda has not really moved since March last year so other than a bit of moss, really not too bad.
