Is that a 4 door classic cica 1980s? Loved mine and is one car i regretted selling.

It’s an ‘85 VM diesel Bob. I’ve had it sixteen years and it’s spent most of that time being rebuilt. I was always too busy working and doing other peoples rebuilds to spend much time on my own. The engine was replaced by the previous owner for a Toyota 4ltr six. It was a mess and took a lot of work to get it something like.

That looks pretty serious.

When I bought it I thought a couple of days to tidy it up and I’d be able to run it for a couple of years. Things got a bit out of hand and it morphed into a major rebuild

3 weeks later - It’s a really nice car, I’m pleased I bought it.

I’ve not been too well recently but I’ve managed to plod on and comprehensively fuck up the paint job on the GTM  I’ve ended up flatting the whole car except for the doors and I’m going to paint the whole thing.

I’m just having a quick brew and some pain killers whilst I summon up the courage to start mixing the paint. Let’s hope I make a better job of it this time

I did a college course 20 + years ago in spraying. Sadly I had to leave the course after a couple of months which was a shame as I was getting quite good at it,and had just started on metallic paint.
Saying that,I never got upto spraying a complete car, just practiced on wings and doors.
The last one I did was the old type mini front wing. As soon as you got it to look good, the teacher would key it or whack it with a hammer so you’d have to fill, flatten and respray

It’s gone on quite nicely but jeez it’s bright :astonished: Not what I wanted at all. The colour isn’t anything like the samples we did :rage:

Looks great! But…

now you have to paint it all

That’s the plan. The doors are coming off on Friday so I can paint the bulkheads, sills and door shuts. I know I’ve done it all arse about but it was never my intention to paint the whole car at this time.

You won’t lose it, that’s for sure :slightly_smiling_face:

Our managing director kindly lent me his truck and trailer and my Scimitar is finally at home in my workshop.

The GTM has been moved off the lift whilst I make the Scimitar roadworthy and fit for everyday use.

That tiny bonnet opening reminds me of the Reliant Supervan I had back in the day. Yours seems to have the full compliment of wheels tho :+1:

The bonnet opening is big enough for a V8 and a spare wheel so not that small :slightly_smiling_face:

So you don’t think me rude Jim, I had quite a few three wheelers back in the day. Seven Reliants that I can remember. My dad was a salesman for a local Reliant dealership back then and kept me mobile for a fair while. I used to go in on my weekends and work on whatever needed doing. He often came home in a Scimitar and I suppose my love for them comes from those times.

Is that a Rover 3.5 in there?

It is. Soon to be replaced with a 3.9, fast road cam and fuel injection.

Not at all Simon. If anything, I was the one being rude. But having owned the three wheelers you’ll appreciate how ridiculous the access was to the engine!
I actually hated the fucking thing, only had it for bike licence reasons.
Now, the Scimitar on the other hand
