Dicking about with crap old cars

You know Jim, I didn’t mind them at all. I got so good at fixing the damned things that people used to bring theirs to me for fixing. They were what they were and gave a lot of people the ability to get around on a tight budget and of course for those who only had a bike licence.

I think you’re confusing it with the Norfolk bonnet.

Didn’t they have a ford 2.9 straight 6 originally?

Here’s as good as anywhere for this Rob @freefallrob

And just like the real thing it starts leaking oil after a week and then seizes up

Watch the video of it, I expected it to go round slowly, like a demonstration thingy, but no, it does all the rpms.

Would be rude not to take advantage of the lovely weather and go out for a quick drive now I have fixed the clutch…

…On the way to a local fabricator to quote for some welding!

Not hugely old, or all that crap, but I run an MX5 for track duty.

Well on the last trip home, it decided that it didn’t like its aux belt tensioner any more:

Had to abandon at side of road and then arrange to go collect it the next day.

Got all the bits to fix it, and in process of removing old tensioner…. This bullshit happens

So my back is broken from an hour with a set of mole grips, moving 5-10 degrees at a time in a tiny engine bay!

Bloody cars!!!

Nice. What happened to your Caterham?

That was a long time ago now. A relationship breakup, and the cost of owning two cars, a flat, renting a garage and paying for track days, all got a bit much.

The mx5 is the track car I can still use now and then if I need to.

If only!

Are you getting back on your feet now David? How’s life treating you these days, obviously not that bad if you still have a track car, but still

I’ll be digging my way out of things for a while yet, but if I give up on all the things I enjoy I’d be miserable. So I stil try to do the odd track day here and there. Problem is that you need seat time to stay sharp, and it’s a skill that wears off. My last session out was messy and slow.

But not much to be done about that!

Life is generally getting there but finances will be a focus for the next 12 months or so.

Thank you for asking though!
