DIY speaker time

Even if you have absolutely no clue what you are doing, do something. :+1::grin:

That’s how I started. As luck would have it my first two footed jump into it as “doing something” was to get Steve to build me a Najda.
Did lots of flailing about randomly with AMTs and large direct radiators in open baffle with active subs before getting to the point that I am now at.
Start at GO and go straight to 4 way active horns!

I buy a new component every year or two. By the time I can’t hear I’ll have a pair of speakers.

This is a time scale I can work to

Things are still moving in the background here. Have emailed a few people about drivers etc. Will see how that goes and what will work well together.

So driver wise at the moment I’m thinking the GPA modern remake of the altec 515 in the bass cab and Raal lazy for the high frequencies.
Still not decided what driver for the lecleach mid yet.
I have looked at: BMS 4592ND mid and Radian 850PB.
Someone mentioned a celestion compression driver but not sure what model to look at.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

I was looking at B&C DCM50 which has a material diaphragm and does 400 - 10000 Hz. That appealed to me.

The Celestion is the AXI2050 I believe. Way more expensive.

I really liked the 850PBs in some Stereolab 400Hz Tractrix Horn, super smooth. Of course you have the easy option of trying the Beryllium diaphragm in the future too.

I think I’d be tempted to go with the Great Plains recommended driver to complement the bass driver and get the Le Cleach horn made to match the exit angle of the CD.

That’s a mighty sensible option

For the Application in the proposed cab GPA drivers make sense.

Did I say that I have some GPA compression drivers? 1.4" ones, 390s I think. You’re welcome to borrow, or possibly buy…

Would probably want chunkier if I went the GPA route, cheers though.

Fuck those are beasts! 7.5kg each  makes me want them just for that

Lol my JBLs are over 11kg. Lower mid compression drivers are literally massive!

You could buy the Rectums if you wanted proper big and heavy. Chris V is looking to sell them, they’re still in my basement packed up.

Edit: my GPA ones are 9kg, they’re the large format ones.

Was look 802 or 902 from GPA not sure how heavy they are

Do I want to google rectum drivers?

Anyone know how much these are and what they are like?

Simon. I think…

I have heard them and they are very good, especially the field coil versions!

As Ritchie said, speak to Simon, he uses them.

Renkus Heinz SSD-5600. Nothing really on the internet about them, but they did sound sweet when I had them running, and @coco reckons they would be good as low as 100Hz with a bit of faff…

Don’t think they go high enough for what I want.

Looking at the celestion axi2050 vs radian 950 (beryllium) at the moment with some people anecdotally preferring the 950s.
