Thanks, but I have enough madness, in the room, now!

Yes, linear supplies are just that - linear - so the voltage out reflects (loading effects neglected) the voltage in. The 230V standard is +10%/-6%. Valve manufacturers advise that for best performance and longest life you shouldn’t run the heaters outside +/-5% of their nominal voltage. So valve amps with a single linear heater supply are going to struggle in places where the 230V range is running near its limit.

Actually catering for a range of mains voltages is a very old problem. The UK had everything from 200V to 250V and exporters had to cope with 100V (Japan) and 110-125V (US) among others. The simplest solution was to put tappings on the mains transformer primary and rely on customers to select the right one for their region.

Transformer manufacturers now seem to prefer to save 0.07p per unit (or whatever it is) by not bothering with primary tappings. The biggest problem though is that products these days have to be designed to function at the level of the stupidest conceivable customer, and certainly at the level of one who won’t even read, let alone follow, any instructions.

Thinking about it, it shouldn’t be too hard to automate the process of measuring the ‘230V’ mains and connecting the correct primary tapping to whatever it turns out to be.

Surely any funding product that has the CE stamp on it confirms to EU standards and should therefore work 220 to 250 volts without falling apart. If it needs a bucking transformer to work at the higher end of the allowable voltages the manufacturer should fit one, switchable. Not make two models to suit either end of the spectrum. Hey ho.

What Graeme said  :+1:

No Keyword Spamming in that listing then?
Ebay normally pull ads like that

I thought they’d pull a list of manufacturer’s names but haven’t thought about listing components.

Edit: I see a bit under compatible brands!

Still want it.

Going to listen to these tomorrow, first proper Hifi purchase in nearly 8 years I think:

Very nice.
I think @FatCuntTroller has a pair of those (or very similar model).
I heard them the other weekend.

Think he’s got the Alpha Signatures which are a bit higher up the Triangle ladder. I had his old Celia units though and loved them to bits.

Had a few years with triangles, zephyrs and Celsius?

Really liked them

Just checked and second hand the Alphas are roughly 4 times the price. There are some Genese Lyrr for sale for a smidgen more, but they are in Nice which is quite the trek.

Now need to work out what to get for all the rest of the system.

I think I’ve got those now.

Not ebay, and allegedly too big for a small cottage
