Entry level vinyl system for a friend

Just throwing stuff out there. I’ve no idea but Richer Sounds and dirt cheap.

How could it even be that cheap? Seems crazy to me.

Yep, that price is off the scale nuts

He’s ruled out the Heybrook, too big. So a biggish standmount is the best I can do.

Large room
Small speakers
Good sound

Pick any two.

At this point, I’d be out, on the grounds of not achievable.

He will thank you for it

Bit too close to home, that :grimacing:

Just tell him to join the wam or aos and buy some random crap.
Any old shit will do. It will sound amazing to his ears.

600 gets a basic rega deck and cart, an entry integrated and Q acoustics, all shiny new from richer sounds. The speakers aren’t ideal fir a big room but it’ll sound pretty decent.

Used could reduce the deck and amp costs and free up more for speakers. Used ms10s wouldn’t be a bad option there.

I ran a planar 2 with bias cart, Rotel 930 and JPW sonatas in a 35x25 room and they filled it. No the bass wasn’t earth shattering but a small sub would fill that in and you could probably manage all of that used within budget.

When you say build a system, have either you or your mate got any appetite for DIYing? If so, take a look at these - all available is a range of kits, from simple plug and fit (more expensive ) to total DIY (less expensive):

Presumably, this is a guy who has never had separates and you’re suggesting he builds his own?

The Sony 501es ticks quite a few boxes, as for speakers, what size is he after, the Rogers ls 6 can usually be had for around £100,i liked the jpw ap3? But don’t know how often they come up, the luxman jb has is good, I had one years ago, the myst tma3 are nice but are now expensiveThe at lp5 to me is a cert, tell him to up his budget to 5 grand, or take him to a bake off and put him off hi fi for life

You might be interested, or even surprised, to know that dealers don’t promote their own products on here. :slightly_smiling_face:

He’s had separates in the past, no chance of DIY for me or him unfortunately, too many kids/other annoying distractions in the way.

I’ve done my bit, provided a shed load of options including plenty from you helpful chaps. Speaker wise, he won’t go big, so I’ve suggested Celestion A1 that are on the Wam for £300.

He seems set on getting a Rega deck, so the amp will have to be a cheapie just to get him going.

I’m not even going to explain the concept of a bake-off, he’d crucify me.

Has he thanked you? With cake?

Did your boss buy that nice turntable you put him on to?

Nope, it’s that kind of … that keeps me awake at night🙄
He was still deliberating last time we spoke.
