Not just the hats - full costumes too, part of the identity/act I guess. They were roasting in the village hall with 90 sweaty bodies in, but Friday they had been in an unheated church in York and were glad of them.

The irrepressible Tim Edey at a house concert. Melodionistas may notice that the left hand is not in the normal playing position - this is because the back plate fell off mid number and rapid improvisation was called for.
Oh, and all my cheese biscuits got scoffed.

same house, different concert - Narthen this time

Yorkshire group? Like a bit of hammered dulcimer.

A tad further south - Derbys/Lincs. The lineup has changed over the years, with Barry Coope (RIP) and Lester Simpson (retired) now replaced by Sarah Matthews and Doug Eunson.
Yes, the " lumberjack’s piano" has a lovely sound.

Just booked for Tindersticks at the Albert Hall in March, full orchestra, dinner in the hall before, too - YAY! :grin:

Despite working 5 mins walk away, the only time I went was to have a look around for the sake of the architecture. Never had any £££ for gigs, and rarely sober enough in any case…

Someone I knew bought one of those private boxes for a dozen people and gave me a ticket as they had one spare.
Was for Clapton.
Not my cup of tea,but glad I got to see inside it

disdainful look from seasoned Prommer

Thanks for reminding me why I avoided the place… :ok_hand:

Not the best places for acoustics, you can get some really shit seats depending on how they arrange, and where they put, the stage.
Been to loads of gig there.
One time was at a Jackson Browne gig and had expensive but shit seats. Saw a whole block of seats in prime position which were all empty and asked an usher what was the deal with those seats.
She said that Shell (Petroleum) had a debenture on the seats and sometimes used them sometimes didn’t.
She must have took pity on us because two songs in, she said ‘looks like no one is turning up’ and walked us round to best seats in the house!

Yes I’ve heard varying reports on sound quality in there, can imagine it changes dramatically depending where you are, much more so than traditional rectangle venues

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything at the Albert Hall but I have performed there :laughing:

I think I was part of the Imperial College choral society - it seemed an obvious thing to join given that I’d always been in choirs and choral societies. Something with them, but I’ve no idea what. It was usually the Messiah :man_facepalming:

Once upon a time I had a good singing voice but age and about 40 years of smoking have seen to that.

Must have fizzled out when IC gave me the bum’s rush.

I once sat as far back as you can in a box there , the view of the stage wasn’t great but the sound was fine . It was a last minute decision to see Ryan Adams and Beth Orton so I had a rough idea where I was sitting but I got a surprise when I opened the door off the corridor.

We clubbed together and paid for one once - I think there were eight of us. It wasn’t stupidly more expensive than eight regular seats and you could arrange to have food and drink brought to you there. We had an 8-year old with us and we thought an entire prom might be too much for her to put up with, so her parents brought a couple of traditional (silent) games/colouring books etc for a bit of distraction and she played with these on the carpet when she felt like it.

Beethoven Emperor Concerto (Pierre-Laurent Aimard). Brahms Symphony No 2.

It really does vary as Kev alluded to;

Steven Wilson = Fantastic
Rick Wakeman = Distorted
Messiah = Superb
The Seekers = Crystalline
Saint Saens - Symphony No. 3 = Muddy

Inconsistent would be my critique :face_with_monocle:

When it comes to the Proms,
In front of the fountain: fine.
Behind the fountain: not fine.
On the rail when Petra Lang is giving it some: awesome.

Saw ABC there for The Lexicon of Love, with the strings and brass stuff.
Was rather wonderful
