Gigs I'm going to. The Gyroscope diaries

Sheesh, all of a sudden I’m wishing I’d paid more attention and got tickets to see them. Looks like there’s a Warrington gig in September, might be worth making the effort for. I can’t remember if I’ve actually seen them.. Song of Life, and Melt, were life-soundtrack tunes for me back in the day.

Given how rickety the Parr Hall was 30 years ago that may well involve structural damage.

I looked at the Warrington gig, looks like it will be a long event given the number of artists listed.

Sorry, assumed the wrong venue. Walton Hall, so all of that side of south Warrington are going to be annoyed and you are going to wipe out all of the animals in the petting zoo.

Last night at Hammersmith Apollo with @Wayward and his daughter watching Waxahatchee

They really are utterly superb.

And Merce Lemon supporting

Yup. The whole point of the RIAA correction. Suppress the bass on the record, to limit the above and also the cutting head straying into the next groove, and enhance the treble to swamp surface hiss. Then in the phono stage undo all that suppression/enhancement once the signal has been turned back from being stylus motion to being electricity.

I’m surprised this one had gotten by you

EDIT: Actually the live version might be even better, even though it’s all but 50 years old !!

She name checks Chris Smither at the beginning of that vid.
I have seen him many times, He famously wrote Love Me Like A Man for Bonnie Raitt.
He has been touring since the early 60s and was heavily influenced by Mississippi John Hurt

Gig of 2025 so far. Dorthia Cottrell (Windhand vocalist) performed an acoustic set before the main act.
