Golf (aka, how to dress like a nonce)

XP90 are quite light, what flex?

Regular. Tried all sorts and they came out best.

Whatever works. I use xp95s stiff. But I’m a fucking monster. :+1:

Think Kevin is in xp105 stiff?

I was sort of in between 105 and 95. With the 95’s I can have a nice smooth temp swing and get the height and distance I wanted. Current set have DGR300’s which are tipped to be half way to stiff. Changed my swing a bit since I re-started playing and the club head speed is a bit too low with the heavy shaft. All good with the 95’s.
Might have a fancy putter fitting as well.

Shiny new clubs are shiny. Midsize grips feel a bit strange so far. Probably test some wedges in the week. Putter will have to wait until this lockdown thingy is allowed to ease up a bit more.

Presumably the shaft you usually have between your hands is much smaller.

I went for mid size having used jumbo for years. Allowed me to release the club a lot better.

Played well yesterday. 17 points for 9 holes. Swing is coming back…

Ground is very different than when I last played. It stops on the greens, but if you miss it is a decent chip on. Playing in the morning. First time with the shiny things.

I use these, but standard size as I have hands like a girl

Got the midsize align version. Feels a bit strange, but control over chips and stuff seems really good.

I need to renew my grips, so might look into those :+1:

I like the align version they weren’t available on my clubs when I got them two years ago otherwise I would have had them

There is a massive rabbit hole of golf foo :grinning:

Most of it designed to separate the talentless from their money with promises of enhanced ability.

It took 3 sets, a similar number of sets of grips, a few hundred £s on different size heads/tech, and too many wasted years, before I realised that my Step-Dad was right. The secret to playing well is; lesson-practice-practice-lesson-lots of practice and a willingness to learn.

Indeed. The same generation as my Dad.

Getting the right thickness is pretty important. The align thingy is pretty good. Problem is they are not cheap. Cost me a tenner a club upcharge. But foo is foo.

Currently investigating different gripper rods to improve my indoor putting practice.

Ordered 50/7, 54/12 & 58/8 Mizuno T20. Two blue, one raw. Almost went Vokey, but the 7 week waiting time put me off.
Will have them 1/2" longer 3 deg flat. Was expecting flat tbh. And my wedge technique is shite apparently. Way too shallow. Bit of practising and a lesson or two due.

If you get chance to use a Top Tracer driving range do it. It is dead good.
