Some bigger kids paid me 10p to go and ask the DJ to put that on, at a PGL Adventure Holiday end-of-week disco, when I was about 10. I think the DJ just laughed.
To really feel the Breeze of Steely you need to cleanse the mind and unwind. Set and setting is very important. This can be achieved by basking in the glow of a rocket shaped Lava lamp whilst sporting thigh hugging Raylon or linen trousers. The following exercises are the final critical portal for entering the zone.
Donāt think Iāve ever knowingly listened to, or even know, a Steely Dan track
Jesus if that doesnāt bring back horrifying memories.
Maybe some liked it, but for me it was just a penal camp for kids.
Somewhere near Ross on Wye, and, err, somewhere else.
Trust your judgement, if you donāt like it why let someone try to convince you.
I love Steely Dan so it must be awful. Probably a lost cause.
As with most bands of that vintage.
Itās quite simple. I am right. Accept it.
Yeah I think the Ross on Wye one might have been where I went. Something Hall, it was called, I think.
Edit: Boreatton Park. Near Shrewsbury.
Same here. Up until tonight I thought they were the same crowd that did 'All around my hat '.
Radio Paradise play some good steely dan tracks so I decided to try a few of their albums.
Clearly RP had picked the best of a shallow pool.
As far as Iām concerned this counts for a good deal. I really like a lot of Steely Dan, but almost all of it is the particular tracks Iāve been familiar with for 30-40 years. Mrs VB has some vinyl from her student days but Iāve just got one of the Best Ofs now. Iāve been known to play it flipping through those numbers which arenāt on my list.
This 3-minute pop song is one of the things you play when the woman you thought you might marry kisses you goodbye
ā⦠and you could have a change of heart.ā (She didnāt.)

With a few notable exceptions, they seem to specialise in turgid wank.
I canāt help you to like Steely Dan in the same way that no amount of pleading and exalting will get me to like Miles Davis. I appreciate his talent but I just donāt want to listen to his music.
Itās true you canāt graft a new idea on a closed mind. Miles Davis because of his relentless expansions in Jazz is IMHO worth the effort, he is far from a one trick pony or āSoundā.
Not closed Matt, just not been convinced by what Iāve heard yet. Whilst they will play āKind of Blueā on a loop in my own private hell, Iāve listened more widely than that, and I may not have heard everything heās ever done, but what I have just isnāt my cup of tea and doesnāt motivate me to keep looking.
Iām very similar on Miles Davis, though Bitches Brew does elicit mild interest.
The trouble with hearing them in the car is it makes you think you have inadvertently tuned in to Steve Wright. This in itself can easily lead to some sort of panic attack as you know it will only be a matter of time before you will be singing along to Ride like the Wind or What a Fool Believes.
My fave (American) band of that vintage would be Little Feat
