Through the mountains today, and a quick stop at Lugano.

Ferry from Mennagio to Bellagio.

Was having a chat with a German guy in a ‘98 Boxster who went over the old Gotthard pass. Sounds brilliant. Would give me too much of the heeby-jeebies though.
Unfortunately he has had cooling issues. Sounded a bit head gaskets to me. He started in Bremerhaven and is off to Verona.

The drive down through the mountains, round Lake Lugano and dropping in to Mennagio is rather nice.
Gonna have a nap and find some tea.

Took the boat over to Veranna today. It is very pretty and has less people than Bellagio.

Went to cycling chapel and museum this morning. Well worth a pootle up the road.

Where is that ? Looks great.

Total switch off for last week. Hired a caravan on the isle of Luing for 7 days. No wifi and an unreliable phone signal which was great as we just switched them off. As with any holiday in Scotland, the weather makes it and we were lucky. Even went for a swim, well more of a dip really as there is is vicious current in the Sound of Cuan even at slack water. Daimler was flawless on the 320 mile round trip. The electronic ignition made a noticeable difference in fuel economy as it gave 20+ mpg. A complete breathe out and relax for both of us.

X.

Thanks :+1:

Did a whale watching trip from Genoa. Saw some small whales (fin whales I think) and some striped dolphins. Photos to follow.
It was really good.
Yesterday we took the train to Rapallo and the boat round to Portofino.

Wasn’t too crowded until two cruise ships full of people arrived to be here’s around. We left and too the boat round to another little village round the corner.

Bit of a mooch about town today, before meeting up with wife’s friends later. Their youngest son is back in hospital with complications from a benign tumour found in his head the other week. Not seen them that much, but there are much more important things in life. Seems he can’t regulate the fluid around his brain so they have had to drill holes in his head and put a drain in. He was dashed back in to hospital while we were all out on the whale watching. But is a bugger when you are two hours away from land.

Fin Whales are enormous.

Will find out more.

Maybe beaked whales.

Had breakfast with wife’s friends and then it was off to France via Monaco.
Monaco has some pretty bits, but I hated it. What a fucking cesspit.

Tried driving along the ss1 coast road, as it has some very pretty bits. Too much traffic in the towns though.
Motorway was mostly bit of a tunnel then really high bridge reapwatwd for many many miles. I do not like high bridges.

I did have a nice dinner in Cap d’Ail though.

After a lovely evening in Cap d’Ail and a swim in the sea before breakfast today was on to Arles.

Nice colliseum, but they still use it for bullfighting. Lovely town though.

After galette for lunch it was off to Avignon.

Palais du Papes was nice, as was a walk around town. Ran out of time and energy to stay longer.

Overnighting in Orange before Burgundy tomorrow.

Back in Épernay for our last night.

Had a pootle round the Route de Grand Crus earlier. Lovely that was.

Had big lunch in Dijon. Will go and have a glass or two and some nibbles.

Ended up saying bollocks to the bubbles. Two smallish glasses and a small amount of nibbles would have been well over 60 euros.

We had sea bass, a burger, a bottle of Provence rose and a pleasant coffee gourmand for that. Now feel a bit full after all the cheese at lunch.

Home tomorrow night.

Dunkirk. 2080 miles done so far. Coupe of hours rest then the 3 hour drive home, and a big sleep.
