I would never call you a twat Rob
We have very similar tastes in music so I think youāll like them. What amp you using ? I mainly use my Cayin valve amp but I was pleasantly surprised how good they sounded when I swapped in the old Sony.

At the moment Iām using an Arion Adonis integrated valve, (which has been a bit of a forum bikeā¦Vanessa Jr) and itās lovely, really suits my Triangles, no valve fluffy nonsense, just a really good amp. But Iāve got a big old Sony TA-F6B that might replace it in the main system, and Iām thinking some 70ās style 3 ways would suit it better, Iād like some JBL L96s but theyāre all old and spendy now and I donāt want to pour money Into something that looks fab, but needs a full rebuild to sound fab too. The other option was Kralk TBD 12s, but theyāre rocking horse poo, and it doesnāt look like the rebooted company is making an equivalent model.
If they would play nice with the Arion, that would be perfect.
I think theyāll work with either amp Rob but would really look the biz with your Sony set up.
I mainly use the Cayin with them and they sound superb to my old ears. After living with them for 18 months or so and using them almost daily I think they are an absolute bargain but that is only my opinion obvs.
I had a pair of the DM70ās some years ago, I found the top end dull and the bass euphonic and ill defined. They had just been serviced and were firing on all cylinders apparently, hated them, probably because they didnāt live up to expectations.
Ugh, just had to post on the wam . Alan Clark (Mr Kralk) is over there and I wanted to ask if he was going to build these speakers again.
Just goes to show that we all have different tastes!
You might also have expected too much and then felt they were worse than they actually were but who knows?
Fingers crossed.
Thanks chaps, still not found anything that tickles my fancy. Not sure about the Impulse speakers as I donāt think Iāve heard any. What are they like?
Very very good.
Apart from my pimped up Taāus from a few years back which travelled to Scalford, as a yardstick I heard a pair of H2s against Tune Audio Prime and preferred the H2s by a sizeable margin.
Have heard the primes a few times, ranged from OK to sounding superb⦠No idea if it was down to rooms or amps that made the difference
Tidy Rogers JR149 - erryone should try a pair, ideally with matching sub.
Decca Volts - another must try with waveguide-ribbon tweeters.
Dahlquist DQ30 - sound good, but divorceworthy looksā¦
Original Klipsch Heresy - bit stiff£ but nice.
Elac ribbon tweeter floorstanders - beats me why the brand gets so little love in the UK
Lovely set of Braun 3-ways - need a little light refurb, but
Iām sure I heard the H2s at Scalford playing LA Woman on vinyl and thought it was a great sound.
Ta, Iāve looked over the DeccaVolts a few times, I remember there being a pair at the first/second Scalford IIRC that sounded pretty damn good.
Heresy are not for me, had a pair and sounded terrible wherever I tried them.
Dahlquist look interesting, never heard of them so Iāll have a look!
I babysat those for a few hours. The bass is great for their size, and the upper treble is just lovely. I canāt help but think that with a midrange they would be amazing, although theyāre really decent as they are.
Hmmm I canāt decide.
DeccaVolt Vs Impulse H2.
There is very little online about the DeccaVolts, my aural memory is not great from Scalford, I remember liking them but not much else! I canāt even find the size of them online!
Plenty of experience with Volt bass drivers (8" & 10") with the Kord Tornado/Vulcan and a DIY project based around the 10" BM251.3 Mid-Bass. Always impressed with the midrange on those, as well as the bass generally. Half the price of the H2s, and probably a lot more difficult to move on if it did not work out.
The H2s seem well reviewed pretty much everywhere, and Bourney has a pair for sale on PFM, Stoke is not too far to collect⦠Unsure on which of my amps (Denon PMA-2000IVR, Bryston B60 or Decware Zen) would be suitable, I donāt really want to have to try another ampā¦
I like the H2ās other than the Focal tweeter. But if that really bugged you, you could try something else.
I have always liked the Rega Ela and Royd apex - They work against a wall well and the throw up a great sound stage.
