Hoops Speaker Roundabout

Interesting, I’d have to keep the sub with the though I’d imagine!

Yes sub needed - The drivers and flares cost is over £1600 new.
For it’s Ā£850 a fair price - Obs Ā£700 better and might be worth a wait.
You do have a DSP crossover and a sub already.

You are right, I do but I don’t really need another project :joy:

What’s that got to do with anything ?

Rob - It’s not a project It’s just twenty minutes faff.

The Beymas TPH 150’s are excellent for future projects though

This was also my memory of the Deccavolt. I feel there is just too much of agap between a 10" Volt and a Decca ribbon.

Long time no see! I’ve wimped out anyway, found a pair of the Kef Reference I was after, picking up tomorrow night.

Bit of an update, still waiting on the house move but the Reference Threes are still going well. The new room will be bigger at 16ft x 16ft but being square might bring up a few issues. The trade off is a double garage with power alongside a car port, so plenty of space for projects & woodwork!

I’ve still two long term projects to crack on with in the new house:

Project 1 - FAST/WAW design
I’ve had a couple of Scanspeak drivers waiting for this project for a while, inspired by a few projects online, such as the diyAudio design below:

I’ve got the Scanspeak 10F/8414 that were being used in my Frugelhorn Lite speakers, to be crossed over around 300-400Hz to a pair of 26W/4534, these should work really well in a ~40Litre sealed cabinet. At least initially will be active with the MiniDSP 2x4HD although I’d like to pickup some of the Hypex Fusion plate amps at some point for a neat installation. I’ll see if I need a tweeter above 6-7kHz after testing, I have all the bits for this now so should be cracking on in the next couple of months!

This one is likley to go into our new Hobby Room in the new house, in a dedicated streaming setup using the Yamaha WXAD-10 although I’ll have to pick up a dedicated 4-channel amp for the final installation if I can’t find some of the Hypex Fusion amps.

Project 2 - Seos12 + 10"/12" 2-way

This is a longer term project (as been in the background since 2019 when this thread was opened!), ideally the outcome will be a higher efficiency passive design I can use with my Decware Zen. I already have the Seos 12 waveguide and from lots of research, probably looking to match it with a BMS 4550. I’ve used the Radian 475PB previously upthread, mainly as I got a good deal on a used pair but they don’t come up to often. The Tymphany DFM-2535 looked really interesting, and great value but now discontinued so the 4550 looks a good compromise.

Mid-bass wise, I’d love to revisit some Volt 10" bass drivers but they are now out of stock everywhere (confirmed with Volt) so I’ll keep an eye to see if any used ones come up.
Once again, Supravox 285GMF is a good option again and I’d like to try the Goodmans Audiom 61/Axiom 301 as well IF I can find some in good condition. Plenty of options for this part so needs some more research!

I have 2 Hypex FA123 Fusion Plates and a remote control if your interested. They come on easy to fit custom made back plates and speakon connectors. Around a grands worth. Yours for £550 or swap for something nice.

Wow great, I’ll send you a PM tomorrow!

Bwaslo had a few designs for these, good place to start because the CD horn compensation isn’t easy.

Morning, tried sending a PM but it says you are not accepting them!

Thanks Edd, I’ll have a read through!

It should do, I’ve had a look this morning and everything looks fine. Try again if it doesn’t work I’ll send you my number and you can text me.

I think its under Preferences - Notifications - Allow other users to send me personal messages

So, Project 2 has moved forward somewhat.

I found a quad of Volt BM2500.4 on an online auction a while back, stuck a bid in and forgot about it. Turns out, I won, and for all four, it was £120 including all the comission and fees, I do love a bargain. It was a bit of a risk as they were not marked as tested but I took the gamble.
Got them home and while cosmetically challenged, they all measure really well, and very tightly matched! With the grilles on, I can’t measure the full T/S parameters to add weight to the cone, I’ve contacted Volt to see if its easy to get the grilles off, so they can be refurbished or just removed for good.

These are 16-Ohms so the initial thought was an MTM with the Seos 12 and a BMS4550 which gives me enough leeway with lower crossover points.

As the BM2500.4 drivers need a very modest box, per driver (between 10-15 Litres depending on Sealed Vs Ported) I was thinking of a modular design, mount each driver in its own enclosure, then I could swap out the Seos for say, the Scanspeak 10F, or easily re-configure as a 3-way.
As they have such a low Qts, I’ll struggle to get any low bass (<40Hz) out of them so I’ll most likely still use them with the Castle/ATC Sub to fill in that bottom end. I’ve even been recommended these as excellent mid-bass drivers in an open baffle setup in the past, if I decide to go down that route again, space permitting!

Use one pair in a big front loaded corner horn, playing deep to 150Hz, and the other in a front loaded mid bass horn 150-600Hz or higher, then compression driver above. Should work tbh

I like it, really need to get to grips with hornresp! The new living room (Moving in a couple of weeks) is 16’7" x 16’2" so does give me some more room for speakers and playing around with stuff!
