I think for everyone’s good (esp the wildlife) they need to stop the wet markets.
It’ll take a serious cultural shift. Many do like to get their food ‘fresh’ ie warm without it having been refrigerated
I wonder how long it will be before they stop cruise ships docking in British ports?
There are ~105 due to visit Shetland this year, if they’re cancelled it will have a massive effect on the local economy.
If they visit it might have a massive effect on the local population.
Listening on-and-off to 6Music today there was the odd mention of what’s going on happen to this year’s festivals.
The financial implications for small businesses that rely on such things as people buying stuff from them is big. What was once a living for some folks could become a big issue.
When you start thinking about the what ifs, and the ramifications on local, national and international economies it gets quite scary rather quickly.
Shutting down northern Italy for a month probably wipes out 4-6 month’s margin for many SMEs.
Edit that last sentence makes little sense… I’ve been drinking since 4pm
A response to the current crisis that I can entirely get behind

You and me both. Let’s head to the Treasury and set things right
Unless you’ve been necking pints of absinthe with petrol chasers, there is little chance you are drunk enough for The Treasury yet. Getting on the Charlie might help too.
Is this from single blokes expecting to be in isolation for a long time?
Judging by the Japscat-style pixellation, s/he has unusually-sited genitalia, making the GS legit.

I find the wearing of surgical facemasks quite intriguing. They were originally intended to restrict droplet infection from the wearer contaminating the subject being treated. However, the exhaled moisture absorbed by the facemask makes it a veritable magnet for the bugs exhaled by the subject, this puts the wearer at greater risk of contamination from persons coughing/sneezing or being in close proximity to them. Research has shown the wearing of surgical facemasks to have little benefit in preventing cross infection. Someone is making a lot of money from this foo.

There seems to be a competition over on pfm at the moment about who is going to die from coronavirus in the most horrible way and who is the most vulnerable or at risk.
Lots of “well I’ve got T1 diabetes, high blood pressure and asthma so I’m more at risk than you” going on.
While there may be a short term recession over this, I reckon it’ll be great for the economy long term. Loads of the old and sick will die, let’s face it they’re just a drain on the state, and it’ll be a great excuse for loads of investment in infrastructure. Mr Burns would approve.
The NHS will be doing the same with people who contact 111. The official story as far as diabetics go is that T1s with reasonable sugar control aren’t at much more risk than anyone else. We’ll need to be more careful with our insulin if the virus does take hold (raised temperature and disturbed immune systems both affect it) but TBH T1s who really can’t cope with that may well have been tragically selected out of the population already. Insulin is a dangerous drug and not very forgiving of ineptitude.
Of course all diabetics are prone to co-morbidities and these, e.g. cardio-vascular complications, may be significant in the context of Covid-19.
