How do you feel? (Part 1)

Thanks Nick. And my thoughts are similar. How can they absolutely guarantee no contact? Doesn’t take long to pass it on if in the same room.

It’s PHE that decide who needs to go into isolation not the school or the DoE.

Yes I meant to add that the local Health Protection team instruct on policy once the facts have been communicated to them by the school.

We will see what happens I guess. Worrying though ( but we have been fortunate so far in this area in having fewer cases than many areas, and therefore not as used to seeing it up close ).

They have no real way of determining the risk for individual pupils in a class. They simply isolate the known close friends and the 2 kids who sit closest. If you are concerned you will have to make the decision yourselves. Don’t expect any support from the school though even if they are sympathetic.

One of my daughters is isolating atm because a pupil tested positive, not in the class she teaches but the same year group. Apparently because the classes mix at break/lunch times, they take no chances and send the entire year group home.

I’m uncertain how not isolating children squares with ‘In Loco Parentis.’ Surely one of the fundamental urges of a parent is to ‘protect’. I guess it would be difficult to prove if your child caught the virus from another infected child at school but if it could, the door of breach of duty of care and personal injury may open.

I was surprised to learn that the government has spent £6M per death so far. Fucking hell.

What was Ford’s valuation based on the Pinto lawsuits?

Benefits

Savings: 180 burn deaths, 180 serious burn injuries, 2100 burned vehicles

Unit Cost: $200,000 per death, $67,000 per injury, $700 per vehicle

Total Benefit: 180 x ($200,000) + 180 x ($67,000) + 2100 x ($700) = $49.5 Million

Costs

Sales : 11 million cars, 1.5 million light trucks

Unit Cost : $11 per car, $11 per truck

Total Cost : 11,000,000 x ($11) + 1,500,000 x ($ I 1) = $137 Million

Inflation is about 15.57 since 1970 (according to google) so a death now would be about 3.1M. So 6M is high, but perhaps not that bad (fords figure of 200K would be regarded as callously low I suspect)

However, since we know most of that 6M was spaffed on over priced PPE and TTI contracts, it could probably have been far nearer 3M (fords accountants were probably technically quite accurate)

What it does do is give the treasury a quick way to do their sums
