Jim’s monstrous b'ass horns

Could get a PC and we remote desktop into it, be just like fucking with the settings on his car while he’s driving!

Any use for an analogue XO?

I realise you would need 3 or 4 boards.

Maybe.

I wonder whether the “get it up and running” stage would be facilitated by something like this:

Get a couple of those, looks like they cover XO points from 80Hz to 9kHz, so should be fine. They look a lot easier to deal with than the Nelson Pass offerings, although I imagine his will sound a lot better when Pete has time to build them!

Is the lowest bass horn going to be stereo or mono?

Stereo

I am guessing they will need to be long and folded to go deep?

If so how to time align them?

I am probably missing something!

Ideally time-aligned, yes. However, in the low bass it seems to be less of an issue, so could probably live without it. The only sensible way to time align (where you can’t do it physically) is to do it digitally, but then you would need to put the vinyl thorough an ADC, align channels digitally and then back to analogue with multiple DACs.

The Najda was a decent solution - it was ok, certainly for the price, albeit not state of the art and is no longer available anyway.

I’m talking to a couple of friends about designing something really top class. We shall see.

How long will the horn be?

@Jim could always dig down and create a bat cave to gain enough room.

Dunno yet. But looking at 6-7m

Really long speaker cables for the bass will sort the delay.

Really long speaker cables for everything but the bass ?

More like a bat well, given where the water table is in the fens.

Actually this might be worth checking before the plans get too advanced. Otherwise the garage will need a second storey added for the listening room and the bass horns will have to be built above the DPM.

LOL, water table is pretty high in places.

His house is not in a dip though and waterproof concrete can be pretty impressive.

to make an island?

If you’re not careful you end up making a boat. @Jim’s refurbed petrol station forecourts, I believe. There’s been more than one case (though not on his sites, I’m sure) of underground petrol tanks ‘surfacing’ when the groundwater rises.
