Great article, thanks for posting. I’ll have to see where the 9 Lives doc can be seen, once its on general release.

There can be no higher praise than “Bessie Smith in stereo”

Another lovely read - ‘Archivist’, treasure hunter, time traveler - That’s a lottery win of job

Always loved the soft cell story
A band who were living what they sung about.
Non stop erotic cabaret has been Citied as the first album totally made under the influence of ecstasy as it was a legal drug in the early 80s only known about by a few people.
Not sure if their dealer Cindy ecstasy is on this album, but pretty sure she is credited on the track torch. She seems to have gone awol in the 80s/90s.
Stevo makes an appearance as the mad manager

Long and interesting. Was aware she’d been a young, precocious, talent, had no idea quite how young. As usual, it takes a good deal more than just talent to make it

Haven’t watched the Beato interview yet so not sure if this gets a mention
This is haunting and harrowing.
I was always amazed she could sing it.

I have no idea what I would do if I was stood in front of this woman as she lets rip. I suspect I would cry a lot

Falling down an Allan Lomax hole - its fascinating how music spreads around the world and takes root - This song could so easily be Irish (Many went to the Appalachian Mountains) it’s raw and imperfectly perfect - Sheila Kay Adams: Little Margaret (1982)
