Fuck, I cannot even listen to that track on the Montreaux album. Genuinely don’t think I could watch her actually perform it.

Just seen it’s missing the last 25 mins. On Netflix if you have it

Lots of interesting stories on this one.

If you loved Summer Of Soul then this is essential viewing. Fantastic film and performances - on Netflix now.

Closest thread I could find to post this, so -

Looks like a really interesting book to read.

Blast from the past.

An interesting article but these stores had absolutely no interest for me. I remember when they, Our Price, Virgin & HMV opened up in Glasgow. Even then I saw them as record company conglomerates. The record shops that I connected with were the independents, especially Listen in Renfield st where they had the pop stuff on the ground floor and the really interesting stuff in the basement where, on a Saturday you had to step over the stoners and the junkies to get to the meaty stuff. Scary as a 13/14 year old but I regarded it as a badge of honour coming home with my records in one of these:

Saw the slits in Camden in 79
They were truly awful, and can’t remember if budgie played with them that night, yet cut is one of my favourite late 70s albums.
He always comes over as a good bloke

To me the genius musicians are the ones that took massive commercial risks
Beatles for the 60s
Bowie for the 70s
And dare I say talktalk for the 80s

Love this interview from 98 where he looks back on his music, and his purpose of doing it

Saw his solo album cover many times in the listening thread, often posted by you. I liked early Talk Talk in a passing way but hadn’t listened to albums properly as in that era I was a party head only.

I remember once you posted about lighting candles in readiness to playing his self titled record so I gave it a spin and it has become one of my most emotional listens when I want to close my eyes and be totally absorbed in a magical moment.

The interview has just made me long for more.
