I know a few people who have been life long Labour Party members, out there canvassing in all weathers and political climates, knocking on doors when they knew they wouldnât win, committed people who moved with the times and stayed with New Labour but have now left the party as they canât see a place in it for them.
Starmer has certainly changed the Labour Party but there are thousands of people he didnât bring with him.

Election is the choosing of a candidate to represent a constituency. Voting is just the process by which election is achieved. The election result is the result of the election, surely ? In my constituency the result was the election of a Lib Dem candidate. The election result here was Lib Dems 1, everyone else 0.
If my football team gets beaten 8-2 this time, but won 1-0 last time then the worst result was the latest one. We lost. The fact that we scored more goals doesnât make the 8-2 thrashing the better result.

Weâve got a local group meeting - in a pub - on Thursday. I fucking guarantee you there will be double the usual number of attendees there, all of them AWOL when leaflets needed stuffing into letterboxes and doors needed knocking on, and all of them will be there just to moan about Starmer, who heâs appointed, and the fact that quite a lot of what theyâre doing is grounded in some form of reality.
