....more armchair politics (Part 2)

Labour Is For Masochists - I fear that’s why I got involved.

The generation that used to wank-on about Tony Benn and Michael Foot are all dead or moribund now, so the next generation of nostalgics are obsessed with fucking Corbyn instead. I genuinely think they wistfully long for the permanently sleet-filled, power-cut, bin-strike, docks-shut, Leyland-fucked days of their youth…

Back now. I did stipulate sensible. Enjoy your circle jerk, er thread.

It does amuse me that Corbyn didn’t leave to form his own party when Blair took over. He was obviously happier to have the comfort blanket of the back benches to vote against his own government over 500 times than espouse his ‘incredibly popular’ national agenda. Still, he was able to eventually get the top job and then unironically lecture his shadow cabinet and back benches about loyalty.

Corbyn doing some heavy lifting.

Meanwhile, someone’s got the movers in

…and someone else is starting to cover their tracks…

Lol

I know this isn’t the cockpunch thread but Peston can just fuck off.

You have been in power for 2 days
How many houses have you built?
Have you agreed an end to the Junior Doctors strike?
How many extra operations have been performed?

I know journalists have a job to do but …

They amputated the Tories from the HOC, does that count?

Corbyn had less votes than the Tories twice, Starmer had more votes than the Tories. That help? Absolute references to numbers of votes without comparing to the other side was a Trumpism in 2020 as well…

As @Valvebloke has already set out, total number of votes cast for one party is irrelevant and only of notional interest unless there is zero understanding of how the UK general election process works.

Gaining a larger number of votes to come 2nd in 380 or more seats means you loose.

Gaining a smaller number of votes to come 1st in 380 or.more seats means you win, and get to form a government

There remains a delusion that the vote cast is for the Govt you want, this is a complete fallacy which the Tories have exploited for 14 years.

The vote cast is only relevant to your local constituency MP, and if you have more of them than all the rest, you get to decide what you want to do with the country for the next 5 years and the rest can go whistle.

Looking forward to some expensively educated bellends getting an express lesson in FAFO.

Lol, action not words. What do they want, British troops in Gaza. That didn’t end well for us last time we tried that.

Our perhaps they will demand sanctions, that will have the Israeli government quaking in their boots.

David Cameron, he seems to just fuck off whenever things don’t go his way, ambition above ability. More faces than the town hall clock that one.

It’d be a start.
Granted it’d depend on what on and whether they were actually enforced…

The only meaningful sanctions would be armaments, but the only economically acceptable approach would be a return to the glory days of the mid-C20th when we used to sell to both sides in any given conflict… :poop:
