Not true, his wife confirmed he’s alive and well. Gross obit in NS though.

The legendary ‘merican baseball outfielder Willie Mays. Hard to compare eras in sports, but his famous catch from the 1954 World Series is exceptional even by today’s standards . . .

Sad indeed. A pleasure to watch in lots and lots of films.

88’s not a bad innings though. And if the rumours (sometimes corroborated and sometimes denied) are to be believed he did get to have various sorts of actual sex with Julie Christie on screen in Don’t Look Now. It’s said Warren Beatty, then Christie’s squeeze, flew over to London where the filming was taking place to demand that the scene be cut. It wasn’t.
