I’d need 10" reels :+1:

And tape that could cope with levels of +18dBu.

Was going through some old files and found this.
Was taken at Munich, 2018

I do like a laptop version

Desktop system is getting on the large size.

Got the tascam from the haul up and running and… 5 minutes later and it’s already broken.

Went to stop the tape which it did and now none of the play or rew and f.fwd button works.

this really is a load of faff.

Living up to the thread title, anyway.

Is it a trick of the light and just a shadow, but it looks like the spindle isn’t properly locked onto the tape reel?

If there isn’t sufficient tension then usually the operation buttons are disabled.

Yeah think it wasn’t locked down right but still having issues. If you manually forward the tape then reset to zero everything starts working again. So could still be a tape tension issue

Today’s tape faff with @crimsondonkey

I don’t know what happened but this was the result of trying to record onto some tape and play it back. Surprisingly after sorting out the mess the tape didn’t snap and actually returned some very promising results of the recorded stuff being slightly better than direct from Qobuz. The tape was pulled from a skip a couple of years ago and dumped in the cupboard, so new tape will probably provide better results. Don’t know if to persist with the tascam or move onto something that will playback 4 track tapes.

We’re going to burn in hell for recording over that Christian music :fire:

If I died for people’s sins and they recorded that lifeless dross in honour of me they’d be the ones going to hell

I noticed a few of you guys have managed to get some of the new Rhino tapes into the UK
Can anyone tell me how they are doing this please as there are a few I’d like to buy before they sell out
Any advice on this would be much appreciated

With some difficulty now it looks like Rhino UK have withdrawn them from their web store.

You might track some down from US sources but it won’t be cheap, and it wasn’t to begin with.

What deck have you got?

Such a pity that someone at Rhino or the distributor has made this decision , such a niche market to start with

Had a quick look this morning at 3rd party mail forwarding company’s but that looks like a dead end too

Ive emailed Warner/Rhino but not holding my breath that there will be any response

I’m running a Sony APR5003V ….just back recently after a service/repair by the highly recommended Petronel Butuc @ the audiophiles clinic in Coventry
