Shiny brand new second hand things in my system today

I’ll check in a bit with something via the nvidia shield pro (using Netflix).

Indeed, that’s what I’ve got ! Lol. It must be your eyes

I will save your marriage for you: spend £150 getting your TV professionally calibrated. TV auto settings are total and utter bullshit. It’s a universal law, like gravitation.

Not sure it’s the picture. It looks stunningly real and vivid.

It’s the fact it looks too real and less “film” like.
The quality is amazing but it has a weird life life effect that I think makes some films look too much like home movies.
Some stuff has knocked me backward it’s that vivid. Just strange and distracting sometimes.

One scene in 4K looked like inside a spaceship. In vision the same scene looked like I was stood (in real life) on a spaceship set made of wood and plastic. Too real.

Ah, fair enough. I’d forgotten they changed the mount…

In times gone by, yes. All the 2019/2020 OLEDs I’ve seen tested so far are only a point or two out in their out of the box settings so it’s usually a case of turning the bollocks off and accepting that 4k TVs look weak with anything other than 4k content.

When things turned HD the Philips Ambilight TV we got had a setting which made everything less like a film and more like you were by the set where they were filming and there were a bunch of actors in silly costumes and poor make up running around. Totally ruined films.

So we switched the setting off :+1:

That’s how we find Dolby Vision. It makes artificial more artificial. Colours are beyond good, though.

I think it was The Hobbit (or similar) that was first slated for being filmed in such hi def that it looked Rong.

TBF, it would be easier to mount the RB3000 on the Gyro…

Fair point

One of BD Audio’s Graphite TT mats. It works very well, excellent SQ. Comes in a plywood case pretty cool.

Have you tried it yet.i have a Definitive audio one and a Origin live one on top of that tempted to try something else.

Been listening all afternoon. It’s really good. I think it’s a keeper. I’m not sure if they are still available but if you can get one I’d recommend trying it.

What turntable are you using?

Pulled my Tenuto out of storage and whacked it on my disco deck. Double brass-tastic

Bet that’s made a difference ?

Yeah, about 2mm in tonearm height

It certainly does something.

On every DD I have tried one on, it has made a discernible positive difference, not so much idlers.

To my ears it enhances the soundstage.

edit: and is much easier to clean than the standard Technics mat
