That humanity developed the wheel and writing at about the same time - the earliest examples of each appear in the second half of the fourth millennium BC. Somehow I’d always felt that the wheel was a pretty primitive thing and writing quite a modern thing. But it seems not.

I remember when I was about 10 taking the piss because they couldn’t spell. It was only many years later that I learned it was a play on “beat”.

One of my neighbours got an OBE.
It’s an old article but that’s her on the right.
It was handy having a JP on the estate when the wife needed respectable people to witness her Irish passport documents
