Lancaster 12”?

MG15s in Lancaster cabs. Should go well with the Decware Zen for late night listening

Does the zen power them ok?

Should be fine, only arrived today!

Nice shipping crates for the drivers, when do the real cabs arrive?

The Tannoy 15" golds like 30+W push pull

GRF types excluded, that’s the main purpose of standard Tannoy cabinets as far as I’ve ever been able to tell

Only really fit for use as fire wood.

Have some speedy steeve 15" GRF slim cabs if anyone is looking …

That’s been my experience. Despite their on-paper sensitivity they simply don’t work with super low power stuff. Don’t think PP vs SE makes much difference - @PapaLazarou ’s 845s at about 25W worked well with my MG15+GRFs.

Never found an SET to work with them. Tannoys own autograph amp was Push Pull. The extra W give grip on the bass that lower output amps lack.

Yeah I now they generally like some reasonable P-P power but this system is going to be pretty much all lost level listening in the evening (furthest from toddlers room). And figured the higher output impedance of the SET (~0.8Ohms from memory) will help pad out the bass a little with the sealed cabinets.
The Zen supprised me with how well it worked with the NS1000Ms for lower level listening when I tried it out.

Is the front port over plated? TBH 15" golds offer good value for money sound for £ and hold their value which says a lot these days. Getting those drivers to start and stop is where the W’s are required - the tone controls on the back can assist in balancing the sound in room. Looks like a tidy pair too

Yep, I’m pretty sure the front ‘port’ is closed up.

Well, a PP no feedback amp is no different in terms of output impedance to an SE no feedback amp of equivalent power, which is generally what matters (I.e damping factor)

If you’re using feedback ultra linear style PP amp then that’s different, but it’s not the core topology (PP vs SE) that is the difference, it’s the use of feedback, which will lower output impedance and thereby increase damping factor.

It just happens that most low power SE amps are no feedback while most medium power PP amps have feedback, so people wrongly attribute the differences to PP vs SE.

You went and triggered my engineering pedant.

You know far more than me on that front - I’ve tried lots of amps with all Tannoys, PP worked better it seemed in my completely terrible space (Even on the 12" drivers) that said very few SET’s were going up to 25 -30W which is rather what they need

Yes, I think it’s more that the PP amps tend to have higher power than SE amps in general. 30W SE amps tend to be far heavier/larger/more expensive than an equivalent PP amp so hard to compare apples to apples.

No, No,No it’s the silver power cables and fuses that give the amp the extra power and control.

Well, that too
