The 300b just went pop , and so did the lads muscles lifting the stack while I pulled out to replace
I need a replacement
Music is back and another thing we can giggle about further down the road

I have a pair or two (very low hours) you can have cheap, if necessary John.
For many years, I’ve wanted a pair of Townshend Audio Seismic Podiums to isolate the big Lockwoods from my room. I believed that they would be the final piece of the jigsaw. The problem was cost. A bequest earlier in the year provided the funds. I dithered for six months and finally pulled the trigger last week.
The Podiums arrived today. I wasn’t prepared for the fact that size 5 Podiums weigh a ton. I’m knackered but absolutely delighted. That’s my system complete. Job done.
That is a lovely set up Paul - glad to hear you now in audio heaven. Out of curiosity what are the two small boxes under the sideboard at either end ?
I was thinking of trading this in for an upgrade MC but having plumbed it back in for another listen before making any final decision it’s staying put a cracking cart.
Thanks Allan. They are RFC external crossovers.
Hate to ask, but has the suspension collapsed? It looks like the cartridge body is resting on the record.
That aside my friend has used a couple of the AS cartridges and really rates them. He’s had their top of the line MM and one of the cheaper MCs.
It’s just the photo Paul there is decent clearance ![]()
Same here - the MM3 is their top of the range MM and I have their entry MC which I got for a song as a low hours ex-demo. The MC is a superb cart and I was thinking of trying the next one up the line but I’ll stick with the MM3 as it’s very good.
I think a turntable upgrade would be a better bet before deciding on a higher end MC.
That’s a relief. ![]()
Makes sense. What do you have in mind?
I quite like the look of the Denon DP-3000NE but whatever I go for it won’t be for a while due to the new amp.
If I was buying a new direct drive deck, that Denon would be top of my list to demo at home. It’s a lovely looking thing.
Congrats Paul, looks ace
Yeah I’m really drawn to that as well. I’ve kind of committed in my mind, though not with cash, as yet.
That’s kinda where I’m at as well.
Due to having a suspended floor, I had the Lockwoods sitting on Sound Damped Steel plates with sorbothane feet which were reasonably effective at reducing the amount of bass going into the floor so I wasn’t sure how much more there was to come.
Having spent a few hours with the Podiums, I’m absolutely blown away. I was not expecting such a massive upgrade. I wish I had bought them years ago. Unbelievable.
I used to have a pair and a full rack many years ago. Loved them and always made a big difference, although these days I would probably try and DIY them somehow as I’m not willing to spend as much on hifi
My mate swears by the podiums, I’m several levels down from that kind of investment but my iso acoustic Gaias gave a massive improvement in the sound when I bought my Neats. Took the bass right out of the floor and tightened it right up. T’was like a different speaker altogether.
I plumbed in the SVS ultra sub I bought with the MLs. The MLs don’t need a sub, but it’s like a hifi Ministry of Sound here now.
I need to get my tonearm fixed and the turntable plumbed in.
Ages ago I made a drunken purchase on ebay, Quad 34, 306 and fm4 tuner. Replaced the ps caps in the 306 and now about to send the 34 to Quad for a complete service. I’ve only just started using it with jr149’s, a jr subwoofer and audiolab cdt6000. It’s not overly analytical and far from an exacting clinical presentation but bloody hell is it musical, relaxing and not once have I been tempted to move or change things in an attempt to improve the sonics. Everything is where it should be without exaggeration of any part of the frequency spectrum. Comparing this set up with my Sugden a21 and 21a the quads are staying. Not bad for a 30+ year old set up, and cheap as chips.
