My system has been rolling off treble for a while now. I’ve tried a Decware Zen clone (I’m on the waiting list for the 2.5 watt Zen UFO) and it didn’t help, neither did changing all cables, nor phono stages, nor the London Decca cartridge, nor new compression drivers.
We tried my cartridge (Phasemation PP-2000) on a friend’s system to see if it needed to be re-tipped. No, worked great on his system (we listen to “Chet” to see if cymbals are clearly represented).
Today, we tried a CD transport/DAC, playing a “Chet” CD, through my amp, (Pete Riggle, “Hiraga) crossovers, and usual speakers (Altec A7 VOT). Sounds great (no roll off). Played a different turntable/tonearm with my cartridge and rig, rolled off.
Then, my mate tried something I hadn’t thought of; he used a Phasemation “de-magnetiser” on my step-up transformers … now I hear the cymbals!
I am so glad he tried that. I would have never thought of it myself (obviously, after spending £thousands on speakers, phono stages, NOS valves). He says I should do this every three months. Hopefully, if any of you experience similar issues, you can try this and save yourselves £bundles.

Hopefully this still works when I plug it in tomorrow. Criminal really that in the 2 and a bit years I’ve had it I’ve probably only got about 25 hours on it at most.

Trying to answer the age old question balanced (RME) or single-ended (Chord). Every review of the Violectric says balanced is better.

Yeah, better for PA, long distances, higher V etc
Good quality basic shielded cables, normal hifi environment, you’ll never hear a difference in proper blind test.
I think from reviews of the amp as it’s made “properly” balanced that SE doesn’t sound as good through it.
My initial impressions are, yes, not sure I could tell in a blind test. Both DACS are excellent and the RME can do different settings if connecting SE or Balanced so that makes it even more difficult.
I actually came across here after thinking I’ve not looked on Wigwam for years, I did, and found the trail on here where even my name was mentioned.
I’m still about, still rocking green lights… nice to see a lot of familiar forum names!

Hi, my first post on this forum even though it turns out I joined this place back in 2023. I was a member of the original Hifi Wigwam forum from almost (but not quite) its earliest days. Used to be a “Naimie” but those days have gone. Nice to see a few familiar names here.
I’ll come back with a picture (or two) of my system once I’ve figured out how to do it…
