Speaker positioning woes

Surely this needs a comic strip

Ha ha I’ve heard her call you that

She will never ever engage in your audio autism. Just be thankful that she tolerates it at the level that she does.

I like to think it’s similar to ‘Skywalker’.

Can’t be arsed to re-read the thread, but if you can be fucked to drive to S. Lincs you can borrow my Neat Elite SEs until you get sorted. There’s no catch aside from the travel, borrow, bring back again in the same nick they left. No, I won’t courier the fuckers.

I had some Obelisks and really liked them, the sound seems to come from everywhere if you give them a bit of space but they still work tucked into corners or up against the wall.

Took them to one of Jim’s bakeoffs and I think the presentation threw a few people, mainly those sitting on the floor who still had quite a good sound.

They were fantastic with some Aleph 2 monos and a Modwright LS36.5 pre.

Thank you @Mrs_Maureen_OPinion, I might just take you up on that kind offer, lets see if I get through the first week without the DTs

Heard a pair of these a few months back
Thought they sounded very good for the price

What you really need is some really nice Devore (funky) Gibbons :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Mocked up (badly) the two best options I have at the moment, that fit my budget;

Klipsch Forte III
Scansonic MB 3.5

The Klipsch are likely to work best as they suit being placed in corners, the Scansonic prefer 900mm min space to rear and side walls. They could move into the room a little for proper listening.

HF drivers would be at similar height, but the Scans may have an advantage by having a second mid driver higher up.

With the aid of my playschool mock-up would anyone care to comment on what might have the best outcome given the constraints. Don’t want to make the daft mistake of plonking £4k speakers in a room that are simply a bad fit.

I did demo Buchardt S400 standmounts, that could be set 700mm off the floor, but they didn’t have the stuff of the Forte’s…

The Klipsch would get me closest to my delusion that I can recreate Spiritland at home

Footnote: the dealer selling the Scansonic has said he doesn’t think they will work due to the chimney breast. Bass will be the problem, similar to comments made on here a few days ago. Mmmmmm. Got me wondering if any speaker would work. The same dealer has suggested Audio Solutions Figaro S as a better fit for the room, which have better bass control.

Never heard cardboard drivers, but imagine they could sound a bit boxy.

these are bespoke twin membrane.

I feel like you want the Fortes.

I do, but I have a horrible feeling the bass might be difficult to control. Need to demo in the space ideally.

Just buy a Sonos Play 5 and stick it on the mantelpiece.

I’ll cut one out tomorrow :+1:

Are you a risk taker?

Are they from the same dealer? Maybe you could get both round with the view that one pair will stay.

Not the same dealer, but I think both might be helpful enough to let me try.

@stu’s idea of AN J/K still seems to make more sense, as the drivers wouldn’t be firing lower than the tabletop.

Neither, tbh, they have even less clearance above the table than the B&Os

Wall mount speakers higher up, a couple of subs, and some midrange diffusers sat on the table top for when you are listening to music would probably be your best bet

Otherwise some form of fold away table

This just seems right, not fighting against the constraints, thanks @sjs.

Really appreciate the knowledge and having you chaps as a sounding board.
(No punchline😳)

If

And it’s a truly huge IF

You are absolutely dead set on towers, then the mad old Snell As on eBay should be tall enough, but he doesnt have the original sub woofers, and you would still need the midrange diffusers

I still much prefer the high quality bookshelves with subs idea tbh
