I’ve just bought a grinding wheel too, although mostly to resharpen the brushcutter and other garden implements rather than fine sharpening things like knives or chisels.
Elm, hard as nails to boot! Shaping at one end complete and flattened off to a rough ±2mm. Need to shape the other end and then set to work on the double curvature underneath.
Yes, there’s a split about third depth that will need stabilising. Thinking of three, two parallel to the long cut end face, one opposite to that angle, long and narrow ties I think, but will mock them up first.
Underneath will be a single slab support, two fifths in and a four fifths long rail.
I see lots of Nakashima inspired tables with some real horror shows with bow ties that are way too big and far too many, the nice thing about the Nakashimas is the understated uniform nature i.e just doing their job.
