Absolutely beautiful, Bob, both the grain / tone / finish you’ve achieved and the shape - I love the slight taper - seems to fit the 50s vibe of the Garrard perfectly :heart_eyes: :heart_eyes: :heart_eyes:

Anyone any idea what the timber is here:

It’s fairly old, and when I first planed off the outer layers, it was almost as dark as walnut, it lightened a bit over the 24hrs before I took that photo

Yes, I’m fairly sure it’s tree wood, that’s plane to see.

It looks like Elm, have a quantity here and the growth rings on the crown planks you have look similar.
