Tales from Uh-merica

Andres Wilkinson, a CBP supervisor in Texas who is employed to round up immigrants and put them in detention centres, has been charged with harbouring an undocumented person. Who is his girlfriend. And also his niece.

New Jersey Democrats are trying to introduce new legislation to give some protection to the State’s sizeable immigrant population. (Second only to California)
They are also proposing legislation to stop ICE agents wearing masks, and a 50% tax on privately owned detention centres. An Executive Order has already been passed banning ICE agents from enforcing orders on State property.

The proposed legislation is known as the Fight Unlawful Conduct and Keep Individuals and Communities Empowered act.

Trumps days must be numbered.

One of the Kentucky Senators - old turtleneck himself - is openly criticising policy.

ā€œAs a matter of policy, the empty merits of sweeping trade wars with America’s friends were evident long before today’s decision,ā€ McConnell said Friday. ā€œThe American people already know that when Washington throws up artificial barriers, building and buying here at home become more expensive."

He hardly mentioned Iran.
Given that there is now the largest military build up since the Gulf War, and the biggest carrier in the world (USS Gerald R Ford) is now in the Med, the potential for military action has never been higher.
The fact that Trump hardly mentioned it was very worrying.
If it was just a negotiating threat you would have expected him to brag about it.

I didn’t bother to watch it but that sounds exactly what I’d have expected (except, as Kev says, perhaps some drivel about Iran too, and maybe the resort/golf/whatever plans for Gaza).

He’s unhinged, so his people would have worked on making sure he read out the important lies. If he wandered off piste with other stuff then his base wouldn’t be affected and maybe the best the puppeteers might hope for is that he didn’t directly contradict something he’d said just a few minutes earlier. So let’s keep him as far away as possible from the Chagos Islands then.

Someone on the radio was saying the same earlier, previously when using a threat as a tactic he’s been very vocal.

Prior to actually doing something like blowing up boats or kidnapping a leader he’s been suspiciously quiet.

Probably a few squeaky bums in Iran at the moment and I bet Khamenei has done a runner to a nice safe bunker in the mountains.

Doctors have warned people not to play the drinking game ā€œTake a shot when the President
liesā€ for the state of the union address.

Dang - missed a lie!

The retirement savings accounts that Trump announced in his SOTU speech were already signed into law by Joe Biden. They were a part of a funding bill that congress passed in 2022.

With 2 hours of lies and bullshit it takes weeks to unpick and prove them wrong.

By which time it doesn’t matter as all those who believed what he said don’t even look at the media platforms which have called out his bullshit.

He can pretty much get away with saying whatever the fuck he wants.

Yup

If they happen, the Autumn mid-terms may put the brakes on. His appeal is declining rapidly out in the country.
