Our house insurance has emergency call out cover, within four hours.
I think ours is four hours, as well, not two.
Plumber from the insurance company turned up at 8:00. The hot water service is kaput. We have cold water again and hopefully will have power and heat later when things dry out a bit. What a feckin’ nightmare. Kudos to LV= though, the plumber was here in 3.5 hours from when the claim was made.
Bloody hell, I went for the cheapest insurance so don’t have any of that.
Hot water is over rated, cold showers are character building.
What a bloody nightmare - hope you can get it sorted asap,
Feral Christmas - just wear more aftershave / perfume ![]()
That’s bloody awful matey, glad you got sorted.
Here’s a thread to help you…
So sorry to hear this Olan. Best of luck getting it sorted ASAP.
As an aside, I swear by my little dehumidifier. Does an excellent job and may be used afterwards as a laundry drier if you geta model with that capability .
Yes. Thinking about it, tying up the ball valve really only works if you’ve got separate cold and hot header tanks. That’s what we had here when we moved in (1991). There were no valves anywhere though, except for the house stopcock and even that had a permanent leak. I had to tie the hot header ball valve up to replace a bust hot tap but a few months after moving in we took most of the system out and had a combi boiler installed instead. And I gradually put isolation valves on all the taps.
It is not that type of tank. It is a sealed pressurized unit with 80L capacity, most of which I am now cleaning out of the kitchen. Fucking mess is incredible…
Sorry to hear. 80l is bad enough but if it’s got a feed direct from the main then there will be that too
.
I’m sorry to hear about this Olan, hope you’re able to salvage what matters to you out of the mess.
Out of curiosity do you know what failed? Did the cylinder rupture? Or a seal?
Granted, you’ll have more on your mind.
A cover on a drainage port gave up the ghost. It is fairly badly corroded. I’ll be talking to the manufacturer and the installer who services the unit annually to find out how this could have happened. We have a 10-year warranty so it should get fixed without costing me too much money hopefully.
We once had a cylinder leak, luckily we caught it before it did much damage. When I took the lagging jacket off it I found the piece of aluminium that some cunt of a plumber had put in there when they installed it when the house was built about 5 years previously. Nothing like a nice bit of electrolytic corrosion to keep you and your mates in business. Twat.
Sorry to hear about your disaster Ólan, hope it doesn’t ruin Christmas too much.
Fucking NEST, keeps activating the seasonal savings schedule and setting the temp to 9c despite me disabling it.
Been working away at the desk and just noticed it’s bloody freezing, temp indoors is 15c
Just started watching “Mr Bates vs The Post Office” last night - I was aware of the generalities, but as this article in the Grauniad makes clear, I hadn’t realised quite how hard the PO was still fighting or obstructing this.
Each and every individual case appears to have to go to the court of appeal, and some convictions are being upheld despite the absolute proof from many sources that faults with Fujitsu’s ‘Horizon’ system were the root cause.
The PO is also - of course - dragging its heels as hard as it can in the hope that complainants die before their cases come up. All of this could have been dealt with in a single group case. That would have cost a HUGE amount, and perhaps a handful of actual criminals could have slid thru the net, but how much more will tying-up countless courts for years to come, cost? How many others outwith this scandal will never receive justice because they’re denied court time?
I hadn’t grasped the scale of this, either - the figure of 2,700 cases is mentioned, as is the fact that many cases are already closed due to death or lack of desire to pursue yet more protracted misery!
There’s ~11,500 post offices in the UK - so it seems the PO was happy to assume that at least a quarter of its postmasters had suddenly turned to crime after a new accounting system was introduced, and then continue to lie about it for fucking YEARS and destroy thousands of lives when they knew full well that it was THEM that was at fault?!
I’m too old and clapped-out for THIS much rage!

I’ve been following this for years, it must be one of the worst miscarriages of justice ever in this country.
Imprisonment, death, excommunicated by their communities, it’s a long list of savage injustice.
Outrageous!
I always thought 7" singles were overpriced and have never bought any.
