Yes, that’s the case put forward to FIFA. I was explaining the background and other factors that might suggest that CCFC shouldn’t carry the can entirely. In answer to people saying it was poor form on CCFCs account not to pay.
Willie McKay (agent - Google him and judge for yourself) was employed by Nantes and arranged the flight. CCFC offered to arrange commercial flights which the player declined preferring McKays offer.
The planes insurance will not pay out as it wasn’t insured to carry commercial passengers.
England players proving you don’t have to be very bright to play good football. Wtf are they getting needless bookings for, at such a late stage of a game that was over half an hour ago.
Some of the anger may have stemmed from the repeated racial abuse. It is still the wrong reaction though. I guess they may have exercised more self control had it still been a contest towards the end.
I hope they go after Dave Henderson who is arguably more culpable than the McKay’s. There is a BBC video of him bragging about flying these Piper Malibu planes on journeys over the sea (which they are not designed to do). The man is an irresponsible idiot.
The Piper Malibu is perfectly capable of flight over the sea. The issue is more to do with the qualifications & currency of the pilot. If he was instrument/night rated, and whether this was current. Spacial disorientation and weather avoiding. Malibus are capable aircraft.
I should have been more specific - in the video he is talking about flying them over the Atlantic to the US etc. He finishes the video by talking about how many of his colleagues have died doing such risky flights. It pretty much sums up his cavalier attitude imo.
I’m no expert, and I take on board what you say, but a single engine plane over the Channel at night in freezing conditions does not appear ideal. Especially when flown by a gas fitter who is not qualified to do so.
The Malibu does have anti-ice equipment. The channel crossing is small also. But the issue of the pilot’s qualifications, and also his currency in his ratings will certainly be looked at very carefully. There could be a hundred things which went wrong, but his request for descent looks like either avoiding icing conditions or trying to stay out of cloud. The latter would raise questions about his instrument experience and special awareness.
I’ve not seen the videos you mention. It is possible he is talking about ferry-flying across the pond. For this size of aircraft, that would most likely route via the north of Scotland, to Iceland, Greenland, Canada the down to the US, or vice-versa. Possibly with an additional fuel tank fitted. And wearing an immersion suit. Not my cup of tea !
Yes, that is what he is talking about - ferry flying.
He wasn’t instrument rated, he attended two days of the course and dropped out. He also posted a face book message after the first leg saying "he was rusty, had trouble understanding the instruments and had been flying too high (better than too low he said).
He also had £35k of CCJs outstanding, which might have made him keen to undertake paid flights beyond his capabilities. Very sad all round.
All these marginal countries & their fans hurling racist abuse during football games, it’s despicable, it really is. I hate seeing & hearing it on telly during these international games. Montenegro?
No, I mean the Scottish fans shouting to McLeish “fuck off ya ginger bastard”
