I really like these studies. Football is a game much more prone to luck than most major sports - it has few scoring events, and small differences can hugely change the outcome. This seems to be routinely ignored by most people.
Hence the lottery of the champs league these days.
All teams are good at the end and any can beat any on the day.
Lose your top scorer early and have a keeper with concussion… that’s bad luck.
