 …Mark called over yesterday for a coffee and chin wag. We went out in his new motor for a run around some local roads. I have to admit I was very impressed…

I still think the styling of the exterior is a little conservative compared to some other EVs, but there were many things I did like :+1: Firstly, the acceleration was astonishing :flushed: real whiplash inducing surge from a standstill. I also really liked the quietness, which is a total contrast to what I’m used to in the 911. The ride was great too - supple, nicely damped without being too soft.
The interior was also a nice surprise - the layout looks a bit sparse, but the quality and feel of the materials was excellent. Some nice touches too, like the convenient button - right under your thumb to open the door, the camera system to record anything that might happen when it’s parked up and the connectivity - all good.
After having a ride in Adam’s Ionic a few months back and now Mark’s Model 3, I’m convinced that I will buy an EV at some point in the fairly near future. I’d like a Taycan or maybe the new Audi, but now I’m retired that sort of cost might not be possible. The Tesla charging network also a big consideration.

This one @Jim

Edit in the video he talks about the high suspension, plastic arches and extra bits to make it off road being the models features. But these can be optioned out on the configurator and I think it looks much nicer without

Is it really that useful for you though?

Looks like it’ll only be a thing if you’re travelling a long journey. If it’s going to be a year or two, then Ionity etc might have caught up…

Yep, pretty much nothing in Norfolk, although Mark said that a site in Norwich is coming on line soon. I’ll deffo have a home charger anyway, so prolly won’t need to charge in Norfolk…

Prefer the overall shape to the standard Taycan, but the plastic add-ons around the bottom and wheel arches are ghastly… :grimacing: :grimacing:

Indeed! Would have to be colour matched or better not optioned.
Standard Porsche though, I configurated a 4S and it went from under 90 to 120 with crazy extras like tyre inflation kit, heated seats, folding mirrors etc.
I dread to think what a bog standard no option car is like

That’s such a big difference with the Korean cars - they are huge mass producers, so basically give you a choice of 2-3 spec levels and the rest is dealer fit stuff like floor mats and the like. This means the specced up models are way cheaper

Korean car cheaper than a Porsche? Who knew.

Yeah who knew!

I mean the specced up models are dramatically cheaper. All the German car makers seem to target a price that looks cheap, but you have to add 20+% to make it seem even slightly more luxury than a 70s Skoda.

Yeah nothing new, half the gimmick with Lexus was the lack of options. I think my LS430 had one trim level and that was it, half the price of a fully optioned S-class/7 series.

What’s faster? New heavier 3 or older lighter 3?

I didn’t think there was any weight difference between the old and new one but there is definitely some hoohaa about the new one’s battery management not being properly sorted leading to some very slow 0-60 times at low charge.

Apparently thicker glass and heavier wheels :man_shrugging:
