I will be making my own mince pies on the 23rd of December. DIY pastry, brandy mincemeat the lot. A massive pile of them, yum yum.

Edit to add mincemeat being made this coming Saturday.

It’s Wednesday, Mr MWS is attempting to conjure what kind of woman the ‘Varnished Ham roll’ could belong to?
Initially his thoughts went to Bracknell and a particularly unsavory strumpet he met known locally as ‘Kimmy Vader’.

Slightly pale looking pastry, but well cooked and nice and short.
No gap, hence a flatter looking pie.
Good ratio of fruit to pie. Mincemeat is nice and tangy, but almost all raisins - no peel, nuts or booze so a little lacking in body.

Sam says the cost saving is trivial, and that it’s partly consumer taste (once people are accustomed they don’t like change, even for the better), and mainly shelf life - crisp, well-baked products lose condition quicker and more conspicuously than flabby undercooked ones that are shit to start with. (not quite verbatim her words!)

tl;dr - people are twats
