The secret diary of Elon Musk and other fuckery

The overwhelming majority of any given Western nation are hopelessly disenfranchised - not just from politics, but from any sense that something they do can have any effect on wider events. Internet access, most especially since smartphones became universal, has turned us all into passive, willingly-manipulated, ultra-gullible consumers, not do-ers. For that reason alone I don’t for a moment believe there’ll be any kind of civil war deserving the name. The States, even the blue ones, will just roll over and accept the new oligarchic dictatorship.

The only ones who may act-up are the truly fundamentalist fascist survivalist god’n’guns loons who won’t be happy unless every racial minority is herded into camps and exterminated. But occasional uncoordinated acts of domestic terrorism are the max I’d expect from them, and since any good dictatorship watches its friends more closely than its enemies, they’ll probably have the legs taken out from under them easily enough.

People are going to die, for sure, but that’ll mostly be the poor - and since they are the most hated and feared (and helpless) of all of the US’s underclasses, no-one will give a shit if they die like flies - it’ll be their own fault for choosing to be poor…

True evil is afoot.

You don’t think there’s any prospect of the grown-up states co-ordinating themselves into enough of an economic and legal force to resist the worst of Trump’s bull-in-a-china-shopistry ?

I don’t know quite how much sway they have to that degree. That said, California is the 5th largest economy in the world, which is quite a phenomenal degree of weighting that it has. I suspect part of the challenge is that the mechanisms for a few solidly blue states to do much are minimal.

In financial terms I don’t know either. They certainly have some freedom to raise taxes but not, I suspect, to block federal taxes or, more relevantly, tariffs.

Thay are quite free to implement policy though, as long as it doesn’t breach federal law. The last time Trump withdrew from the Paris climate treaty quite a few states simply said they would continue with their planned carbon reduction measures as a matter of state policy. I don’t know if they could block, say, gas guzzlers being sold (or even driven ?) inside their boundaries. If they could then that would pressure the manufacturers into not making them.

Its fun to look at the US as a playground. Currently the bully is in charge. What normally knocks him off his pedestal is the little guy, the David. What is curious with Trump is that he has been posing as David, the victim for so long in order to gain power. Perhaps a genuine bully in that case is what’s needed?

The plot

"A group of secessionist states known as the Western Forces, led by Texas and California, has been battling an authoritarian president who is serving a third term, has disbanded the FBI and physically attacks his political enemies.!

I have seen it thanks.

No doubt :joy::rofl:

nope that vandal is a cunt, don’t give a fuck how big or clever you think it is but spraying someone else’s property no matter what they buy is just twattish.

If I caught someone spray painting a car they’d get a boot to the face no matter what brand it is.

Agreed; what puzzles me is that so many companies- with warm and cuddly corporate values- have remained on Twitter\X…

It’s kind of puzzling but then again not. People and organisations can be selectively blind until trouble arrives at their doorstep. Take our government and the BBC.

Well yes there’s the whole Nazi thing and concentration camps, but muh reach and clout.

Just follow the money, it had nothing to do with ethics, just money. Always had, always will.

Do you beleive, for a second, any of the corporate BS that TFL vom up?

It’s no different for any other major organisation. They will say anything that is in vogue of it gets them more customers and more profit.

Why do they stay on X? They have calculated that overall their presence still makes them more money than leaving.
