It’s an amp, not sure what there is to get working properly if you followed the schematic and built it nicely.
He did make and sell a very serious preamp though. Very serious it was.

Is there actually any evidence of that? “Get it working properly” is probably a euphemism for “retrieve the bits from wherever they’ve been abandoned, scrape the mould off, and actually start”.
